OK, put in my new government approved spark arrestor, seems to work good. Look carefully at the end that is inserted into the muffler, it is a nice tight sliding fit. Hard to measure 5 1/2 inches into the hole, "that sounded wrong" so I just kept removing .004" at a time until I got the fit I was looking for. No back pressure and a noticeable improvement in performance.
While running "idle" noticed that the entire muffler has a high resonance at idle, this was also felt on the tailpipe. I am quite sure that the entire assembly has a high frequency vibration. good news, I would be concerned if only felt on the muffler and not on the tailpipe.
Time will tell but I think this will work just fine. Now to work on the winch mounting plate!
