No Overdrive (Aux Pump does not kick in)

For the last 2 days now I have noticed that the RTV will not shift into high gear when the accelerator gets mashed to the floor board. Usually I have to ease off the pedal when I go up our secondary driveway. I've played with the pedal to see if I can feel a shift from high to low gear while driving, but I always find that the speed stays the same. The engine doesn't seem to lug down anymore.

I've been hauling some landscaping rocks all around the acreage, and I've put on about 30 miles with a heavy load in the bed. It's dusty out here and I am hoping that a change of fluids and filters will clear this up. The RTV has 153 hours on the meter, and the 50 hr fluid change was done 103 hrs ago. The manual states that the hydraulic fluid changes are due at every 200 hrs intervals.

Is there a adjustable lever that I can tighten or loosen, depending on which way it has to go, that will turn on the auxiliary pump sooner? The manual doesn't claim that there is an adjustment.

All other PM has been done, like greasing and lubing.

Any advice?

Thanks,

NV,

Sorry, but I'm not really understanding your issue. If/when the aux pump kicks in, you really don't feel any type of shifting. You'll just notice the RPM change in the engine "if" it was bogging down.

Are you thinking the aux pump is always in use? What kind of max speeds are you getting (on level ground) in H & M range?

I think I found out what was happening. It has to do with viscosity. Apparently, during my previous runs, the tranny was cold, thereby producing increased friction. This in turn brought the RPM down when the engine was placed under a heavy load.

When I drove the RTV the last few days, the temp was in the high 70s and the fluid had been heated to its operating temperature. With less friction on the pump parts, more power basically flowed through the gears and this in turn prevented the aux drive having to be kicked out (by foot pedal).

Yesterday morning I drove up the same hill, and I could feel the aux drive disengage when I removed my foot slightly from the floored position. The engine would pick up in RPM and the forward motion decreased ever so slightly.

On the level terrain, I can get up to about 27mph (GPS) in High, but I haven't check it on Medium yet. On the hills, I get up to about 18 to 20 mph while in H gear..

Thanks for your help, though.
