Hey everyone. I’ve got a MF245 with a Perkins Diesel. I bought it last year and used it for mowing/brush hogging. Ran great last year, zero issues.
Over the winter I used it a handful of times to scrape the snow off the driveway but noticed the oil pressure gauge would read normal pressure upon a cold start but it would drop, raise, drop etc during the cold months but would level off within a minute or two to normal pressure. Once the engine was warm, it had no issues with the pressure, at least on the gauge. It was rise to the normal position/range almost instantly.
Fast forward to today.. I bought some fresh oil and filter and when I remove the oil filter first before draining the oil it had very little oil in the filter. It wasn’t dry but maybe a 1/4 full? I figured the oil pressure issues I experienced over the winter may have been related to the filter which is why I wanted to check it first.
Before draining the oil out of the crank I started the tractor with the filter off to see if there was steady flow of oil to the filter housing which there was. I didn’t run it but for a few seconds but it seemed to have enough pressure and quantity behind it to fill an oil filter rather quickly.
We’re about to run back out to town for a few minutes but when I get back I will complete the oil change. I’m going to pre fill the new filter before putting it back on to see if that helps with anything.
Tractor is showing 760 hours. It runs great and seemed to be maintained. I did not notice any oil leaks from around the filter so I wasn’t leaking out. Maybe the old filter had some sort of blockage? I’ll see what happens when the new oil and filter is installed. The oil that I drained out of tractor was clean.
If the problem persists I guess I’ll dig deeper but has anyone else experienced this?
