RTV 900 Front Drive Axle Upgrade/Replace

I believe that you can replace the ~ 3 piece front drive axle (from the transmission to the front transaxle) with a one piece CV type long drive shaft. Does anyone have any experience with these and where do you find them including the selling/manufacturing company name? Also, how do you match up the correct part number as there are no numbers on the old multi piece drive shaft and all I really have is the Serial number off of the manufacturing plate behind the cab. Not even sure when this RTV was built. Thanks for your help.

Hi and welcome. I think you are talking about the one piece drive shaft like I had .... My 2011 RTV 900 xt came with the one piece shaft on the machine new. It had a boot like a cv joint. Man did that thing last and last ( I had over 4200 hours on the machine when I sold it (or thereabouts) ) .However, my previous 2004/5 model 900 had the 2 piece shafts and they rattled and rattled. They were infamous for it and became known as "the rattler" among many owners. If I remember correctly though, the replacement was listed at around $700 if a person wanted to upgrade their old style . The counter people at Messick's Eqpt can help you find what you need. It sounds like you have the needed numbers too. https://www.messicks.com/vendor/kubota

When you say serial # behind the cab, is that above the bed on the passenger side mounted to the ROPS? If so, that's the serial # of the ROPS and from the factory, that is also the last 5 digits of the VIN.

Look under the bed behind the drivers seat (above the battery). There should be a plate that has a 16 or 17 character VIN #? If so:
If the VIN# is 16 characters, the 9th position is the year.
If the VIN# is 17 characters, the 10th position is the year.

If no VIN# available, does that serial # plate have a 5-digit number? If so, please post the first 3 (like 162xx) and I may be able to find it.

yup! you need to look at messiks online or go to the kubota dealership and order a 1 piece drive shaft. the new shaft doesn't exactly have CV joints but it is pre loaded at the ends with springs that keep the shaft from wobbling and wearing out the splines on the transmission. just a little tricky to install sometimes.
