Thanks in advance for your time!

Hi Chad450r and welcome. It sounds like the notorious shift fork. Doggman had a good post on this forum about the HML shifting fork. I will try and find it and bump it. Cov also has one . I will try to also find the one pertaining to the 4wd . Bordercollie

Bordercollie, thanks for the info I had read this and it caused me to look further. After disconnecting the cable at the transmission I soon realized the cable was broken. I had to cut the rubber boot off to see this. I think it has ben broken since I purchased a few years ago, and finally got to jammed up. Truth is i never really need 4x4 even plowing snow, such a great machine. My question now is does anyone know how the cable should look, the heavy wire is maybe supposed to be inside the crimp, but it looks out of place..hmmm. see pics thanks! I understand the aluminum sleeve is supposed to be crimped but that heavy wire in pics just has no place to fit, maybe something else is broken or missing.

That is great news Chad!!!! According to my parts book, the cable is one piece itself and each end screws into a the ball link . The cable appears to be the same on each end. ( one end attaches to the 4 wheel drive lever on the rear of the dash and the other end at the transmission.) The adjusting nuts may be positioned differently but the makeup appears the same. The cable in my book is # K7561-4291-0 reference # is 60 in the picture. The ball links should be reuseable but it depends on the condition.. Before you order check the part # with the parts guy to make sure I'm on the right thought.I agree that is a big wire or something twisted off. Good Luck and let us know if you need more info. oh yea, I posted cov's informative post in the wrong place earlier- here it is for future readers. http://www.nettractortalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14138

So if anyone is following this I called the dealer ordered another cable, to the tune of just under 75.00, Oh well could be worse. So I bought this RTV used with 250 hrs and it has always shifted the same in and out of 4x4 HARD like bad engagment lever would almost spring back always figured it was the nature of the beast, and as I said before dont really use 4x4 that often.I could not see anything wrong only recently felt through the rubber boot and it wiggled way to much, thus cutting boot and finding it separated as seen in pictures. I think that hard wire in the middle helped it work apart can't really tell till I get the new one. Since I have to wait a bit for the new one I decided to cut the hard wire shorter and recrimp the sleeve, much to my surprise it worked and once adjusted properly it shifts like never before. Not sure if this is common or not but if yours shifts like this one did check out that cable end.

Welcome to the forum. I had one break on the threads before. I have seen those cables break on other utv's (usually at the crimp) just not on the bota's yet. Run it like it is, at least you'll have a spare when you finally do need it.

I would try and move the lever outa 4 wheel drive just to make sure its not the fork....cause the cable does not look like it broke into....

I dug around in my picture collection of the '05 RTV and found this picture of the shift area -picture #1
picture #2 is of my 2011 RTV ... It has different ends and an added spring.
