RTV With LED Strobe Lights???

Anyone have LED strobes hooked up on their RTV for plowing? I've got a 6 pack of 22 led amber strobes but I'm not positive where it would be best to mount them... Anyone have any hooked up? Got pics? :letitsnow:

DixieDog,

What kind of strobes did you get? Are they bulbs only or complete units?

Below is a pic of the ones I installed. Personally, I like them up high. People can see them from farther away but the main reason is they don't strobe on the snow near the RTV. I can't stand that bright flashing on the snow right near me. With these, the flashes are farther away and much more subtle.

That would work. If it causes any problems, it's easy to remove. The potential issue I see is will you get a blinding strobe effect when it's foggy or snowing since it'll flash right in front of the windshield.

How much wiring did it come with? It looks like they're pre-wired. Do they appear waterproof (or water resistant)?

If you garage your RTV, is it a standard door height (6'8" or so) or is it taller?

If you have the head room to put it on the roof, I was thinking of making a box or something in the shape of a mini light bar. Have 2 strobes forward, 2 backward and 1 out each side. It could be something the size of a shoebox or narrower.

PS. I edited your post as the link entered was bad.

The wires look fairly long...they are about 8'... if needed they use standard wire so they could be spliced and extended. That's what I was wondering about the blinding aspect, I guess I'll give it a try and go from there. I wasn't sure if someone here may have already experimented with a set and had some pointers on the do's and don'ts.

I plan to remove the little brackets and fill the holes with silicone and use the red 3m double sided tape on the backside to attach them to the roof. I'm trying to install them without drilling holes in the plastic roof in case they don't work well and I remove them.

I don't use that 2-sided tape much. Think it'll stick to the rough surface of the roof?
How are you going to set the pitch? If the roof is tapered, your lights will point to the sky.
For the ones facing backwards, what would happen if you mount to the top of the cage? Being vertical, you won't have to deal with the roof pitch.

That's an idea on mounting to the cage, I didn't think the pitch of my roof would be a big deal but you may be onto something there. I've used 3M double sided tape for alot of things in the past and it holds extremely well. It's what I used for all the LED lights I've put on my bass boat, if it can take that pounding and the 65 mph winds I think it will take all my little RTV can dish out and then some. If not it's not expensive, I'll just need to look for an alternative if it fails.
