Second Service and Found Mice Home

Well to start......I park my RTV in an open machinery shed since we are always using it. After I bought it I once found mouse poop in the storage tray under the seats. So I cleaned out and started leaving a bar of Irish Springs soap in there. No more problems. Plus it always smells good in cab now, LOL

Well today I did my second full service albeit 50 hours early at 150. Engine, trans, hydraulic oil, front knuckle cases and front diff, air, cabin and fuel filters, etc.
But while inspecting I found something. I love Kubota's but what would posses them to leave a giant open cavity where the heater and cab fan draw outside air in from???? While under front hood I happened to notice a clump of pink and black insulation at the firewall. Then when I looked discovered it was right full.
Now I'm panicking. So shop-vac'd out all that I could then went in the cab to remove the cabin air filter. It was packed full as was the squirrel cage of the fan.
So more vacuuming and blowing with compressed air.

I did not want to cut the plastic flap on the firewall but luckily my tiny wife's hands got in there enough to duct tape some window screen over the intake.

Hopefully the Irish Springs keeps working for me because I put a bar inside on top of the cabin filter and one on the firewall under the hood.

Another comment I will make......this thing has more rad hoses and clamps than a Napa Auto Parts store, LOL

Why couldn't they put a screen over that?? Well I should find out soon enough if my home remedy works.

I've had similar problems and to date have found that hanging a bag of mothballs has worked. You will have to replenish from time to time. Any material to make a small tear drop shaped hobo bag will do. Tie it off with some good string and check it periodically. I also keep my front hood open during storage. I think Irish Spring trumps mothballs every time! Also have had problems with Subaru and Toyota with rodents.

this may be a little gross??? some nasty kitty poop or unscented dirty litter works good also. not in the kubota though just in the corner of the barn.
the resident skunk seems to keep them away also. i feed it some stuff to keep it around and tame.

Ya, I don't think I'd want the litter in the cab Authuritis, LOL

So that deters them if left on the ground in a shed or barn?

I just can't believe I have mice with all the foxes I have in the yard.

But then again, I guess the foxes can't get them when they are living comfortably in my RTV, LOL

Well ordered a new cabin air filter today from Kubota today because dealer had none in stock. I was horrified to find out this stupid little filter is over one hundred dollars!!! Had look and see if there was green and yellow paint under the orange.
Then I found this thread:

Not sure if anyone found any alternatives yet? I am going to see if auto parts store has anything that size, and after seeing this old thread, it gave me another idea. I have a box of 3 layer filter material that I got when I helped the Cab Fresh Filter Company redesign their cab filters for the 2005 up International Paystar 5600i trucks. They were an awesome company to deal with, used their filters on all my big trucks.
Anyway, hoping maybe I can make something with the oem filter frame.

Size is 7-3/4 inch wide by just shy of 8 inch long and 3/4 inch thick.

Take your old filter to an O’Reillys or NAPA, etc… My O’Reillys found THREE alternatives for my Ram 1500 cabin filter….The OEM was $28 and the three alternatives priced from $8 - $11. All fit perfectly despite supposedly for totally different vehicles and (no kidding) less than 1/16-inch differences in thickness in one, and 1/32” CLAIMED in another.

Nasty little buggers. It's a constant battle for me as well (sleds, riding mower etc.). I'm lucky to have room in my garage to keep the RTV in there until the cold weather.

So went to my Kubota dealer today to pick up my new $107.19 cabin filter. Then took it to Parts Source and matched it to this $25 Fram.

Fram doesn't have an outer frame like the Kubota, but it is exact size and thickness and I'm sure it will work. If not I'll cut the center guts out of the old Kubota frame and stick this in it.
