Service and Tech Tips

Hi Folks, I've been reading along without saying much. But I happened to check Messicks.com and was very impressed with the current site. The FAQs for RTVs gives most all the basic service info/instructions needed. Click on the Tech box at the top right. On a different thought, I found outside mirrors that fit the OEM windshield frame very well. Look at www.discountautomirrors.com for model #JP11L and JP11R. The cost is very reasonable at $6.40 each. These are made for the Jeep CJ series but fit the RTV great.

Great tip! Thanks!

Hi Captain,

How exactly do these mount to the window frame?

Did you drill holes and or use self tapping screws?

How far does the mirror stick out? Sometimes I go through some fairly thick brush and was wondering if they would be prone to being scraped off?

Would you happen to have a picture of how it looks mounted?

Thanks,

You position them on the flat steel area on the lower outside corners. I used stainless bolts and locknuts. Look at any CJ 5 or 7 Jeep with a factory mirror to see how far they extend. I have mine adjusted to have approx 2-4" from the inside edge of the mirror to the w/s frame. It is possible to fold the mirrors forward when in heavy brush. Can't do a photo now since I left the "buggy" at the hunting lease.

Oh, You will have to modify the right hand mirror arm by cutting the lower bolt hole off and drilling a new hole at a slightly different angle. I used a tubing cutter and hand drill for my modification. Worked great.
