Speidel weed wiper

I've had my '07 900 RTV almost a year now and there isn't much I won"t try with it. The problem is that my CRP acres are getting a lot of briars and brambles and I want to take care of it this year. Has anyone used a weed wiper mounted on the front of the Kubota. I also have a winch front mounted that I think I could use to raise and lower a wiper if properly mounted. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sierra

Wecall them " Wick-Bars "

Yes, I have one, and it installs on the front receiver . Extends outward, frames tees and goes-up, and has a frame make out of perferated channel aluminum. That way all I have to do is move it up and down as needed..... Fluid supply goes into the back in a spray tank..... when I need to fill up again, I turn on the pump on the tank ( 12 volt supply going to outlet plug ) and fill 'er back up ........

Made this myself, also have one for the four wheelers !!!!

Rough drawing, but I think you get the idea, hope it comes threw right !!!! The small piece on the bottom suppose to be the 1 1/4" extra heavy duty square tubing..... sticks out about 13 - 16 inches pass my winch...... This thing is a life saver, on the RTV's and four-wheelers ...... filler hole is on one end, on the top. Ends are pluged with exspantion plugs.....

As I stated, made mine with adjusting holes in the weed wiper ( wick-bar ), but, a person don't have to have it, for I have kept mine at the same height ever since it has been fabricated. The wicks brush plants about 12-16 inches in height, knocks 'em out great ...

I always add Surfactant to my herbicide, it makes a world of difference on the outcome.

Two Guns, I have my wiper in storage as I haven't used it since I bought the Kubota. You've got me all fired up to get it out and fix a mount for the bota. My biggest problem was unlevel ground so I may have to consider a mount like yours and suspend the canvas coated pvc with a chain type hanger with limited swing. What do you think? I already have the 1 1/4" bar to use in the front receiver. Hopefully I won't need this much since the Grazon is working so well. Thanks, Bordercollie

Is the weed wiper a way to apply Herbicides? I saw a comment that it had a canvas rap. So I am guessing that the pump saturates the canvas and applies the weed killer is that correct? Why use this over a plain sprayer?

Hi Canyon Creek MT. Yes, that is the way the wiper works. The reason I liked it was that you could wick the bad weeds once they were taller than the grass and only kill the things it touched. If your grass and weeds are the same height then it doesn't work so well . I prefer a selective herbicide in my pull behind sprayer because it is the lazy way. I can spray a swath about 30' wide and kill only the bad weeds when I spray Grazon. It is about $83.00 a 2 1/2 g jug down here . I put 2 pts of Grazon per acre out by figuring out how much water I am spraying in my boomless sprayer per acre. I have it figured so I am putting out about 12 gal per acre of mix so I broadcast this mix in my 60 g tank and can do about 5 acres so I add 10 pts Grazon plus sufactant {Helps it stick sort of}and I have beautiful grass but no bad dangerous for livestock weeds. The wiper is good if you have tall weeds and you can use generic Roundup in it. You can also use it when it is windy but not so with the sprayer. Bordercollie

Two Guns, I like your idea, looks clean and simple to mount and I'm guessing not too heavy. Does the PVC pipe need to be braced or stiffened lengthwise or will it take some abuse?? as is. I am planning on using Crossbow for the briars with a surfactant added. I am thinkinkg of using the canvas wrapped version, I've got it in my head that the briars maybe won't stick or grab as they might the rope wick. Thanks again for the great responses.

My wick-bars is really, very heavy duty PVC piping. Just be careful and forget they are there and " side-swipe" a tree or something else, it's easy to do !!! The ground that you are trying to take care of with the herbicide, it is grooming ground, or garden area, or what ???? . For if you were just trying to kill briars, on the edge of fields, hunting property, or something of that nature, and don't care about killing anything else under it, I would just use a spray-unit !!!!

The wick-bars, I'm using on the RTV's & Rubicons, is some we've had for years that we used on farming tractors. Being we don't use them on the tractors anymore, I took them and cut 'em down !!!

Sorry, forgot to answer your question>>>> Yes, it's pretty stable, only support is the twoaluminum perforated channel irons that the pipe is attached to. Other than that, has no braces what so ever ..... These things are tough, as long as you don't run into something ~~~~

It's not heavy at all.

Try to get the thistle before it heads out. The smallerthe better . We have that and curly dock aka wild mustard . It is unfortunate that our neighbor lets his field go so we have tons of thistle blowing over here. But the residual action of the herbicide I use discourages their taking root for most of the summer. I turn off all spray nozzles but theone on my side of the Kubotaand spray the ride of way on the gravel road .The Kubota makes for a perfect job. If your road shoulder is fairly flat the wick will work. My wick is 10' so it is harder to use on uneven land.. Works nice otherwise from what I remember. Bordercollie

This is a great idea. I've never seen anyone with it before, but it sure makes sense.

if you are only trying to save the grass i would recommend spraying 24d ester to kill all the broadleafs without hurting your grasses.
