TIRE SEALANT ( SLIME )

Just installed four new tires & aluminum polished rims on my RTV....</P>


Wasneeding to know, on the aluminum rims, will this hurt the inside section of the rims. </P>


I purchased " SLIME " sealant, and went to put it in my tires, and had several folks said that it will pit the aluminum inside the tires. Have not yet put it in, rather be safe than sorry !!!! Does anyone have any TRUE answers on this note. </P>


Would like to have it in my tires for in the swamps, we have alot of big thorn trees & limbs. Used it on the Honda Rubicon four-wheelers. And the product done excellent, but, have never used it on aluminum wheels. All Replies would be appreciated !!!!!!!!</P>

The "true" answer...

Who knows what'll happen to your rims... Ditto if you have chrome.

OK, Slime has rust and corrosion inhibitors as well as something to adjust the pH to make it more alkaline.

Aluminum alloy wheels are that. An alloy. Being as there's so many different alloys out there, they can't predict what will happen. Older rims in particular can be susceptible to damage.

Now, my 2 cents...
I've put it in aluminum alloy as well as chromed and regular steel rims. I've had no issues (that I know of) with any of them.

The way I look at it is I have a couple choices.
1. Put the slime in and then don't worry about getting a flat. I haven't noticed any issues with chrome or alloy rims so I "think" I'm OK. 5-7 years so far and no issues on any of the vehicles.
2. Don't install the slime and risk a flat tire. You either have a spare and swap it out or you don't. If you don't, you're probably going to drive home with the flat tire. When this happens, you've probably destroyed the tire and rim. Over the long run, it's quite possible to have spent more in new tires/rims due to flats than I would have by risking potential issues due to using the slime. The other problem with this option is getting individual replacement rims whenever it occurs.

I guess it's up to each person to decide where they want to take the risk.

The stuff is going in., have two gallons, figured I push 1/2 gal per tire/wheel ~~~~</P>


And that's is that !!! If it screws up in 5-7 years, I'll just purchase some more tires & rims [:D]</P>

Why does that sounds like way too much? I don't have a container handy but thought it was a lot less then that per tire.
I'd have to think about why, but for some reason, in the back of my mind I'm thinking too much may not be better than using the recommended amount.

On there web site, they have a quick calculator for off road tire size. For it showed 35.6 oz. per by the calculator >>>> And there is 128 oz. in a gallon >>>> By them, I would need 142.4 oz for all four tires ( Ruffly ) >>>> Really will not need all of the next gallon >>>>>>> </P>

I used Hollander PCC (Puncture Control Compound), its the clear stuff. My local auto parts guys say its better than slime in that it is oil based vs water based (Slime). And it worked out to be cheaper given you need less per tire than Slime. The web site is http://www.hollanderproducts.com/</P>
