Upgrading to LED work lights on the ROPS - Wiring advice needed

Hey everyone,

I'm getting ready for the shorter days this fall and decided to finally upgrade the lighting on my L3901. I've got two LED flood lights that I'm planning to mount up high on the ROPS (Roll-Over Protective Structure) facing backward for when I'm running the snowblower or doing late-evening grading.

I know the draw on these LEDs is pretty low compared to the old halogens, but I'm going back and forth on the wiring setup. I'm planning to run them straight to the battery with an inline fuse and a dash switch. Do I actually need to wire in a relay for these, or is that overkill for low-draw LEDs?

Also, if anyone has tips for routing the wires cleanly down the ROPS to avoid snagging them on low-hanging branches, I'm all ears!

First, with your permission, I'd like to move this to the Kubota tractor forum section where it'll get more views.

Before you do any wiring, check your tractor's existing wiring. In particular, the wiring for the "work lamp". (Right side in the diagram below).
Most tractors come pre-wired for rearward facing lights. The existing light switch should also have a setting that engages this light. On mine (not a Kubota), it's one more turn of the light switch past the headlight setting.

Look inside your rear fenders for some wiring. On mine, it's on the left side. If you don't already have a rearward work light installed, you should see a wire that's not connected. Not 100% sure if the diagram below is for a L3901 but it appears to be a red wire in the diagram (look on right side of picture). That should be all you need to connect your new lights. When you find that wire, use a volt meter and test for 12v there when you turn on the light switch.

Assuming that wire works (or even if you're running new wires), I'd wrap the wire in conduit and using self adhesive clips, secure it to the inside of the ROPS to your light.

A correction. The pigtail/wiring for the work light on my tractor is on the rear right side, between the fender and tranny.
