Winter is coming: Windshield for XG850 Sidekick?

Saw one of my neighbors yesterday. He rode a couple miles to my place in his Polaris Ranger. I noticed the windshield and got envious. I hated driving my RTV-900 at it's glacially slow speed in the winter; I'm going to hate it even more with my far more nimble and speedier Sidekick.

What windshields do you guys have and what do you recommend? The Kubota/Orange-whatevertheirnameis is glass, which is the Gold standard. But it also comes with a Gold price. My neighbor was happy with his Lexan shield. The vented kind for summer ventilation is necessary down here in TN.

LMK what you got.

Thanks,

This is about 5 miles from my house. My RTV-900 would have never made this trip.

I made mine out of Lexan MR10, some clamps, washers... My RTV is garaged but the windshield hasn't faded or yellowed in the 17 years or so the windshield has been on there.

Here's the Lexan I used.

Glass is the best and allows use of a wiper, but is expensive. Lexan can be okay, but even hard coated need very delicate care and cleaning.

Don't just wipe them or they will be scratched. My friend showed me a good trick on our last atv ride. He carries one of those small pump up garden sprayer bottles filled with washer fluid. That was it has pressure to spray the dirt off.

Also......if you install a windshield you will want a rear window, otherwise you will get dusted in the cab and get exhaust fumes.

If you install acrylic/lexan/etc…. when you clean it…MAKE ALL strokes VERTICAL….NEVER HORIZONTAL, circular, or back-and-forth scrubbing.

The minute scratches which will be introduced WILL DRIVE YOU NUTS AT NIGHT….while vertical minor scratches will be mostly ignored by your human eyeballs. (it’s a bit like polarization) Circular and horizontal scratches will create blinding “halos” while verticals will be easily ignored.

Use only cleaners approved for plastics. NEVER AMMONIA-WINDEX!

I had a lexan windshield for my Gator. It did keep most of the wind off of you going down the road, (no side doors or back window) but it did scratch very easily. I have a glass windshield on my new Kubota RTV. So much better. I would never think of going back to Lexan, given the choice. By the time you buy 2 Lexan windshields, you would be able to pay for a glass one. The lexan one and woods with overhanging branches don't get along with each other.
