Two days ago i parked my 2011 900xt the next day I turn the key and nothing happens. The lights on the dash come on and i hear the click under the bed but the starter doesnt even try to go. does anyone have an idea where to start. Ive already checked all the fuses. i have already contacted my dealer, but would save me alot of time if its something simple that I could fix myself.

Start with the battery and work outward. Got a meter for reading battery voltage? Voltage below about 12.4-V usually suggests that the battery is dying or dead ... you might put a charger on it just to see whether it will hold the charge. Clean up the battery cable connections. A little emery cloth would be good therapy for the terminals and the connections ... maybe apply some small dabs of dielectric grease.

Most auto parts stores have load-testers. Pull your battery, take it to AutoZone (or such) and have it checked.

Good luck. Please let us know how this works out. We go to school on one another here.

Check your neutral safety switch. I am old school and would next jump it at the starter and see if it turns over.

I agree with Heatwave and Muleman. I would first clean and tighten the cables and the terminals on the battery and check that the battery hasn't run down. Are the headlights bright when the key is on? Make sure that you don't let the the wrench tightening the + positive cable touch any metal on the RTV when adjusting it. Could anything have been left on and run down the battery? Also make sure it is in N good. If you have a set of booster cables, you could also try them off your vehicle to see if the battery is the problem. If not, are you still under warranty? Also , I read in the owner's manual that there is a safety with the hyd lift lever and the engine will not start if the lever is in the up or down position or not centered.. bordercollie

Thanks for everyone's help. Just wanted to fill everyone in. Just got back from dealer and it was a bad starter

A bad starter? I hope you gave it hammer therapy before you had it replaced. It's amazing how a hammer can get a balky starter to beeehaaave. Sometimes.

Glad you got 'r fixed, mate. Ride on in peace.

The mechanic could get it to start just by tapping it with his hand. I ask him if this was common and he said first time he's seen this on a 68 hr machine

Sounds like a loose connection. That starter gets it ground when you mount it. Wonder if the mounting bolts may have been a little loose? I do agree with the mech., we don't see many bad starters with that low of hours. Glad to hear your back up and running.

One more thing ... now that you've got your started fixed: even the most piddlin' amount of water in a starter will turn the device into a boat anchor. If you've had your machine in water, or if you washed it a bit too aggressively, perhaps, water may have found its way into the starter. A blast of WD40 can cure those ills. For what it's worth.
