1140 4x4 issues

Looking at buying 1140 that wont shift into 4x4. If its a fork issue, does transmission have to be pulled

Sometimes 4wd doesn’t easily engage unless the vehicle is being slowly moved under very low power/throttle….or “coasting” after throttle let-up. Disengagement can be similar.

In addition to what geohorn posted...
parked with the engine running turn the steering wheel from lock to lock while gently pulling the 4WD lever.
