Hello to the group; new member of your forum.
Living in Glengarry, Cape Breton. [midway between Port Hood and
West Mabou]. Bought a century old farm in 1967 [120 acres] and raised 4 kids here; all grown and moved away to greener employment lands. I am a
retired Stationary Engineer. My first tractor was completely home-made.
a Vauxhaull used gas engine-two gear boxes back to back gave me
Unlimited gearing. Budd wheels. Porta power gave my front blade a lift.
Roll cage and lighting mix. Used highway truck chains gave my re-treads
a good grip in the woods. A Ford truck front axle [twin I beam] flipped
upside down and welded gave me a logging trailer. Department of Lands
and Forests was interested in my Home-Made method of logging and
so paid for my $800 cost of materials and construction to get into the
woods and manage my woodlot. since 1983 I have heated strictly with
wood I have cut and hauled out. Graduated from my home-made to
a gas Case that was too heavy and without hydraulics was not suitable
in the woods and for winter snow plowing. 10 years ago i bought a
used International Harvester B-250 diesel, with rear hydraulics-WOW
I have gone to tractor heaven. Welded up a rear drag blade and a
boom arm for lifting 20 foot and longer saw logs. luck enough to have
neighbours [bought tractor from them] who allow me to share their
bush hog, manure loader, log splitter in exchange for doing and welding
and repairs on their equipment. I have a complete repair barn,
do All my own car/ equipment repairs and modifications. a
McGiver-and so are my 4 kids. House is underground and something
I built too. Always like to tinker. Take care
