Back when we fed by hand using buckets, we would get our corn , ground chopped or whole , at the feed mill. Our co op had one. Now we get it delivered in an 18 wheeler cracked and unloaded for $240 a ton. Neighbor grows it and has an 80,000 bushel dryer.. someone like that might unload you some if you caught them loading an 18 wheeler and they had the equipment out.
 
Just got back from TSC where I got 50 lb bags of corn or sweet feed for $9.40 each. Collie your price works out to be $6 for 50 lb...........substantial savings and worth finding some barrels. We get our goat chow at the mill and load up say 5 barrels at a time so next time we are there we are gonna find out about the corn and sweet feed price and go with that like Jamie suggests........Surely we can find room someplace for 4 or 5 sealed barrels.......

HMMMMMM....good food stash to have for HARD TIMES?????

Nobody commented about deer not coming to feeders......are we the only area that this is happening??????..........God bless.......Dennis
 
Around here everybody is putting up ear corn since the price on it is better than shelled. I usually buy ear corn for my feeder out front. Hoping to get a crib together yet this fall as I can buy it on the ear for $110 a ton.
 
The corn I got was in 50# bags, sewn shut. They put the bags on a pallet then wrapped with that clear, clingy plastic wrap. When I arrived, they used their fork truck and just slid it in the back of mine.

I paid $6.12 (including tax as I'm not tax exempt) per 50# bag. Bulk would be cheaper.

We're within 30 days of hunting season so it's illegal for us to put anything in the feeders right now. Will have to wait until the season is over.

We use feeders also. We set the timers not to go off so often, for we have MANY acorns on the ground at this time of the year. We will set the timers to spin out more corn more often about the second week of December.

Another attractant I use here is Rice Bran. Deer love it, will walk over anything to get to it. Your local feed supply should be carrying it or can get it for you.

ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNDDDDD, another specialty secet thing I do. Frito Corn Chips.
DEER LOVE THEM. ( And yes, they know when you use the cheaper stuff too, they don't like it so much ). When I go hunting. I always throw some of it out. They go crazy over it. I buy the big bag, and use about half per hunt. Spread it out, for they will fight over it.

They like the pelletized sweet horse feed a lot. I sprinkle some in with the ear corn when it gets real cold out. Gives them calories to burn on days like this when the wind is brutally cold.

So, my son Ryan decides he wants to play soccer.

First games were last night. My son never had a practice or anything more than a couple minutes with a friend who plays. He took to the field last night for back-to-back games. He did very well considering he never played before and was playing against kids 2 years older and everyone except Ryan has several years experience.

The teams that Ryan has to play against are "Youth 14" meaning 14 year old kids. The teams Ryan plays on are mainly 12-year-olds but since they won the Western PA championship last year, they're "playing up" a division to get much stiffer competition.

It’s an indoor league so it’s very fast. It’s a hockey size arena. They can play off the walls/glass and keep on going. Ryan needs a bit more endurance especially when playing 2 games, back-to-back. Many of the other kids also run cross-country/track so they’re used to endurance running. Ryan got a bit more winded than they did.

Still, a great time for all of us.

At soccer, they never quit running .....

Thanks Jamie! I just walked into the other room to him, stuck out my hand for a handshake (which he does perfectly by giving a nice firm shake and looking the other person in the eyes) and said "Two Guns is cheering for you from down in Louisiana". I reminded him who you were as he hasn't heard your name in awhile and once he remembered, he said "Thanks!"

Here's a pic of him sighting in my 30-06. I put new optics on it and he was more excited about sighting it in than I was so I let him get it close for me and I finished it. His .243 is in the foreground. Put the deer stands up last Friday. Bring on the deer!

Edit to add. They grow up so fast. He was 2 years old when I got my RTV...

It's great that you and Ryan have such a interest in shooting. Always said and believe strongly....... with our children, if you keep a gun in one hand and a fishing pole in another, the bad elements of life seems to stay further away from them.

Sounds like Ryan has always had a RTV in his life ...... :a1:

Ryan will do good.
Tell him I said,
"Aim True, and the weapon will shoot True " and always
"Just squeeze the Trigger"

As I recall, that day was his first time shooting a 30-06. I had forewarned him about the amount of recoil compared to his .243 or anything else he shoots. Now he wants to use it for hunting. I told him no as I don't want him to get blown out of the tree stand from the recoil when he makes a shot.

That's the truth. Whenever he's outside with me and we need the RTV, I always seem to end up in the passenger seat.
 
I have been cooped up with heart troubles since last Monday. Went A-fib 5 times and the pacemaker nailed me but good. Some different meds and my pulse finally seems to be stabilizing. Till tomorrow when I take the wife out to learn to run the snowplow...:whistling: She needs to learn sooner or later anyway. The Ambulance chief is our roadmaster and the one town employee lives right up my road about a mile so they would get up here if needed. Thought I was going to need them the one night. Got zapped at Sams while they were filling the scripts and again before I got home. It was snowing like mad but she drove on the way home with no issues. Doc said sit around and no exertion till tomorrow and then go slow.
