RTV900 2006 Rear propshaft

I am having trouble fitting a new rear propshaft back into the gearbox, it slides in about halfway and then stops when it hits the inner teeth.
Any tips or tricks that anyone knows ?

I can't remember exactly how I did this but thinking back, I rotated the shaft back and forth as I pushed it in. Thinking it was sort of like a combination lock as the many gear plates moved as I wiggled the shaft as I pushed it in. I don't remember like I once did though.

Thanks, with your advice and freezing the shaft overnight ( and a 4lb hammer) I managed to get them in.
