My Dad said it was college or the military after high school. I hated college so I joined the Air Force. I leaned a trade that put me on a far better course in my life. It also taught me about loyalty, self-sufficiency and about how to be a better man. I had to work with other branches in my job - yes, even the Navy. And these turned out to be my best friends. My only regret is selling the 70 Cutlass Convertible I bought off a Major who was leaving the islands. As I was about to leave after my hitch, a boy from my home town who was also stations at Hickam AFB, begged me to sell it to him and I could name my price. I only asked for the price I paid for it three years earlier. I wish people looked after each other the way they did in the military. You were only alone on the holidays if you wanted to be.
