    Hydraulics Explained

Hi all, East Tex Frank, Just thought I'd let you know that I'm in the UK and by using the link you provided managed to download the Manual in pdf format without any problems. It sure is detailed and very useful indeed ! Many thanks, Jon

    Widening rims

How will you hold the strips in place while you weld them to the rims ? I'm trying to visualise how you'll maintain an equal space whilst you weld them, the slightest bit of heat distortion will put both rim sides out won't it ? Sorry if it seems a daft question . . . Jon

    grapple

Thanks for the link, not a bad site eh ? Now, you live Crewe way don't you ?! There used to be a really good scrapyard on the Nantwich to Bickerton Hills road where I used to pick up second-hand rams and scrap metal real cheap but after calling a pal who farms up there it turns out it's now...

    grapple

That's it, that's the one ! If only I'd have had better graphic skills that's the exact same design as I had in mind. You can see what I mean about the ram being on the top, it's the only place for it really. Would love to see more designs from these two if you have any or a link ? Good luck...

    World's Largest Tractor

Wow ! What an absolute beauty, I bet it cost a few bob ?! I also liked the Challenger, I've not seen either of these tractors before. I always thought the Steiger Panther 1360 was big but BB seems a lot bigger. It's sure done a fair bit of work, I would'nt have thought spares were too easy to...

    grapple

Now that looks like a good solution ! Only thing is your limited to the length of logs you can lift, if you retain the bucket but if you use the ram and top grab with your current design it'll work a treat. I look forwards to the end result ! Jon

    grapple

How's this ? Hi Mith, How's this for a lousy diagram ?! Whatever, does it convey what the frame set-up is ? It looks like the top of the frame has lugs and the bottom has hydro fixing pins with the whole lot pivoting on the bottom as the ram is in or out ? There are ways round it, it just...

    Know these ?

Hi Mark777, Thanks for your reply, much appreciated ! So you think the first is an International eh ? You could well be right. I actually thought they both might of been JD's if only because of the twin front tyre setup. The first has rubber and the second has the old iron rear tyres, that must...

    Know these ?

Does anyone have any clue what make these two tractors are ? I'd really appreciate any information you can supply please. [Thanks to Arvid, a member of my forum for letting me publish these beauties which are from his site http://ourmnacres.us/ !]

    grapple

Grapple Hi Mith, That design should be fine but you'll need to bring the ram right back. I wish I had your skills at drawing, this design is the best I could come up with. Hopefully you'll get the idea ? If you have your two tines on a movable length of thick MS rod and then have your ram on a...

    grapple

Hi Mith, I see what you're after now, yes 1 ram will be enough I'd think. Sorry for my rubbish drawing, I must admit you're quite a draftsman ! Have you had training or have you got a CAD software programme ? I tried that Auto-CAD programme and just could'nt use it, bit too complex for me. Have...

    grapple

Here's the sort of design you might be better with, the shape of actual grabs/tines being like this, about 6-10mm plate will do. You'll need to put the rams [I assume you'll have 2 ?] further back as a result. If you need more detail let me know ok ? I think you know what to do though, so good...

    grapple

Hi Mith, Hope the enclosed picture shows why this design will cause problems. Because of the angle of the top arm as the grab closes any logs will be forced out and you'll lose your load. If you make the top arm rounder that won't happen, I'm doing a design so give me a day or two ok ?! Jon

    grapple

Hi Mith, So, if it's going to be used for logs and brush you'll have problems with your current design, give me a day or two and I'll post a grab I used with the FC many years ago. The rams sound fine now you've explained. Jon

    Wotcha !

Crewe ? Small world, I used to work around Nantwich and relief-milk at Reaseheath Agric College where I also went as a student [NCA] I wonder if they know the Proudloves [Baddiley and Faddiley] or any of the Lathams ? There's some real nice land out that way but with prices to match ! They...

    Gas Cutting

Hi all, These new Plasma cutters are incredible to use and watch in action. They cut through 10mm plate like a knife through butter ! However, what happens when you need to do a job outside or in the field ? Call for the gas bottles is the cry ! [Oxy-acetylene or Unsaturated hydrocarbon if...

    Grass For Clearing

I go along with the Ryegrass considering the conditions it'll have to grow in and the fact it's for stock grazing. There are some really good hybrids around these days, it won't hurt to have a bit of Timothy and some Fescue. I'd also consider some clover depending on the N levels. I would'nt...

Lexington man killed in tractor accident

Here, here, ditto ! Any death is a tragedy, what makes it more so is that in the vast majority of cases it due to ignorance or taking risks, cutting corners or doing things you know you should'nt but do anyway because you've got to get the job done. Having had an accident when a cow crushed me I...

    grapple

Hi Mith, [we've got to stop meeting like this . . .] From the design and size of the side-arms [I assume it's to scale ?] I suppose it's going to be used for big bales, round silage bales, etc ? If that's the case the rams you've got look a bit on the large size, for clamping bales etc, you'll...
