06 kubota rtv no power? transmission?

hi guys I'm new here. love reading all the post. seems all of ya love your rtvs.... I bought a 2006 rtv with enclosed cab heater snow plow hydraulic dump bed. only thing if frustrating me it has no power! engine runs strong but pull up on a lil bank stop and try to pull out it wont even spin a tire. just grunts, could it be the trans? or diff? any help would really be great.

Spinning tires is not exactly the RTV's strong point......Nor is exhibiting it's power range in High gear. One needs to think ahead a bit and realize that using the transmission's gear range is a necessity.
Seldom will I pull up to a stop sign with my Mercedes go fast 2 seater little roadster with a manual 6 speed......put it in 2nd and pull strongly away like it will in 1st. It will die if I put it in 3rd..............
What I am saying is that both vehicles are built for functionality. One has to plan ahead as to how one is going to use them. It really is that simple. Just as I don't put the top down in the Merc, pull u to the barn and dump a load of mule poop into the second seat. I don't pull out on the road in the RTV and expect to keep up with the traffic that goes down the highway on the main road............I HAVE TO THINK a bit before I put them to a job...........
Sorry for preachin a bit there; but sometimes I do go on and on a bit to much.......Dennis

Hi and welcome. I use low gear when the RTV is on an incline and trying to move it from a stopped position. Otherwise it will indeed just grunt. My 2011 model is a little better in the less grunting department but the '05 was just like Dennis said. Try L and let us know what happens on the inclines. Good luck. bordercollie

If my 2006 RTV can go down - and more importantly up - this hill, then you should have no trouble as well. In LOW obviously.

good luck!

I posted this answer on your other post but it'll better serve readers here so it's below.

When I first bought my '08 900 I stalled it frequently. I learned quickly what it's capabilities were. This lesson was embedded deeply after walking out of the timber to get the tractor. I still find myself in a stuck situation, but rarely.

The HVT is not an energy efficient drive system. M range will stall the system in a hard pull situation. L range is your best choice. But it too will stall or turn the tires so slowly that no progress is made.

With the stock tires it's usually traction loss that ends movement. With aggressive tires it's usually loss of wheel speed.

Adding a hand throttle has been my best modification for overcoming this problem. Gives you all the torque possible to the wheels.

Driver adjustment is also a gain. When you hear the engine stalling let off the go pedal a bit. This allows the HVT to function at a lower ratio thus improving useable engine torque. But alas, this also results in slower wheel speed.

Getting a run at an obstacle is not an option with an RTV.

If you still have issues in low range i would check hydro fluid and filters and possibly a plugged fuel filter. They shoud have good power in low range. The machine oif mine has never been a real wheel spinner which would be nicer if it would.I Have found that during plowing if the fluid gets warm it looses power and wont do squat even when trying to roll back and forth. If I let the trans fluid cool power comes back but by then its generall tractor pulling out time.I had talked to the dealer on this and he states that it shouldnt loose power as to not spin wheels in low range but have never taken mine in to have it checked.I keep my fluids all changed and filters changed. It could be as something as simple as that or maybe a tune up or adjustment of the trans. As another posted recommended is a hand throttle which is a huge bonus .I always use it while plowing or running up and down very steep hills. But as the HST transmission and the RTV is a different beast than any other out there maybe you need to get used to what is capable of doing and what is not or basically getting to know the machine???
Hopefully its something as simple as a fluid and filter change for ya...

I agree Mark I and many others will only use Kubota fluid and filters on the transmission. In cold weather the Sudt2 is preferred but I use it anyway here in the south. I have over 2850 hrs on this 2011 xtr and also had a 2005 with over 4200 hrs when I sold it. Transmisson fluid is so clear it is hardly visible and also, it has antifoaming additives- from what I have read. bordercollie

Also, in the scenario you described, try gently pushing the go pedal, rather than flooring it. Again, the HVT is a "strange" beast and takes some operator acceptance to work at it's max capability.

Try the suggestions and report back the results.

I don't think there's anything mechanically wrong with your machine. Time will tell.

Hey guys thanks so much. I have done the easing up on the throttle. and also had it serviced at a kubota dealer in morehead ky. they did all the service on it. but yesterday they had left the 4 bolts holding the pump together that works the hydraulic dump bed and plow and for some reason it blew the seals out of the lines and poored from the pump. but on a step incline it just losses all power even when letting up on the throttle. maybe I'm just use to the 22 hp tractor and how it performs and had higher expectations for the rtv. but thank you guys so much you are a world of help. I love thid fourm.

I feel your pain. Accepting the RTV is a steep learning curve. When I first got mine I was on here questioning it's abilities as well. Now here I am telling you the same thing others told me. :)

Sorry to hear of your dealer problems. That doesn't leave much room for faith in their assessment that nothing's wrong with your machine. :(
