2016 RTV C1100X - dump works, no transmission

Hey guys, I recently bought a 2016 c1100x with 3,000 hours on it. I read a lot of the posts prior to buying to see if I could diagnose the issue. The truck runs fine, power steering and dump is fine, but when putting it into gear, there is no noticeable engagement or movement or strain. I do hear a very very slight whine in the rear, but nothing I would consider abnormal. I checked the linkage and confirmed the shifter is moving the hst actuator, I confirmed there is oil in the hst, and the wheels turn freely when lifted in the air (no brake drag).

I just purchased all new Kubota filters, hst fluid, and engine oil and plan to replace those tonight. Is there any signs I should be looking for aside from clogged filters, or irregular colored fluids?

I will be checking the shift forks to confirm no bent or damaged condition there, anything else I should check while changing fluids?

Thanks

Just completed the fluid and filters. Replaced all with Kubota parts and fluids. I noticed the following:

HST fluid was dark golden color and the magnetic plug was heavy. Nothing big but lots of it. I have no idea when the last service was done so it could have been a while.

Hydraulic tank fluid was daek golden as well, with some larger flakes caught in the strainer. Oddly enough I was not having an issue with a hydraulic dump or power steering so I’m not sure if this is an area of concern or not.

After replacing all fluids and filters, I did start to get wheel movement which was a huge step forward but either something is way out of adjustment or I have internal issues to resolve.

I’m not sure if there’s a bleeding process for air or not, can anyone shed some light? Also what steps would you guys do next?

@aurthuritis You appear to be the HST master, I am following some of your other threads. What do you think of the condition of the magnetic plug?

magnetic plug just looks like it has been a long time since serviced and being it is magnetic probably just from the gear train or could be bearing degrading. did you cut the filters open to see what was in them? you should! getting some movement with new oil probably indicates filter blockage so it might be possible to circulate the oil and do another filter change and cut to see if the contamination persist? generic filters work good for this as long as they are cheaper. even generic fluid as long as it meets kubota spec would help cheapen the flush process as long as you finish with UDT fluid. all of the above is just in hopes that it will run but most probably time for a rebuild of at least the valve plates and thrust bearing. if the rotating valve block is the source of the magnetic particles and show any singe of scratches or discoloration they will have to be replaced also but only inspection will tell. if restricted filters are all that is wrong you might be lucky and get it to going though. do you have a WSM?

also now that you have some movement. although the unit is slow does it have power? what i mean is will it drag a heavy object or climb a steep hill? or does it just stall out? if it has power but no speed then it could just be the servo piston that moves the swash plate that increases the speed with more tilt is just not getting full travel. slim chance but easy to check.

Alright, found the problem. I am not as concerned about the problem itself, but rather, why did it happen? Makes me feel like just replacing the entire HST.. how on earth could this have happened?

What do you guys think?

probably a ball out of the thrust bearing went through? could it have had badly water contaminated oil and it froze? do the parts look blued from heat?

That sounds likely. It wa detonated. Since I don’t know the history, it’s hard to say. The oil I drained didn’t have water but that doesn’t mean it didn’t. Parts don’t looked blues beyond normal

that is a pretty bad one for sure. not your every day wear and tear. one thing about a new hst over rebuild is the year warranty
