3930 diesel fuel injection pump timing

I have a 3930 diesel with the CAV/ Lucas DPA injection pump. previous owner ran the tractor with the pump pined. I am trying to get the pump re timed to the tractor but I can't find any information on how to make sure it is in time. I have the flyweel at 19 degrees like I have seen in the little bit of information I can find but I need to make sure the pump itself is in the correct position. If anyone has any information on doing this it would be appreciated. The shaft on the pump is tapered not keyed for those wondering.

That's not a DPA pump. It's a DPS pump, and it's what's known as a "lock timed" system. There is no way you can time that pump correctly on the engine. It needs to be removed, timed on the bench using a dial indicator and proper adaptors by a trained individual. Then installed with the engine set at 19 degrees with #1 cylinder on compression stroke. When the drive gear is secured to the pump shaft the timing stop (the bolt in the mounting flange near the data plate with the spacer washer under the bolt head) needs to be loosened and the spacer installed as it is now. That's the procedure in a nutshell.

finally a real answer. thank you

Actually, I'm not quite sure on the 19 degree spec. I know that's accurate for the Simms inline pump, but would need to look up the spec for the DPS.

everything I have seen for this engine in its earlier years is saying 19. the only thing I believe that has changed threw the years is them going to this tapered shaft on the injection pump
