Additional Muffler

Has anyone worked on making their RTV quieter by altering the muffler or using one of the add ons???:drive2:
We don't hear our muffler at all. The only noise we ( I ) hear is the diesel engine on the 900.....

Now, I will tell you something that really surprised me last year. And still stunned about it.
Went out of town to pick up a piece of equipment. While me and the man who we were getting it from was talking right inside his shop was discussing more equipment, I turned around and a man on a newer Honda four wheeler done slipped up behind me about five foot. ENGINE RUNNING. NEVER HEARD A THING. He rolled up inside the enclosed shop, which should of amplified any sound.
The shop owner introduced me to the man. I ask him, how in the name of God, did you slip in on me that close. I DID NOT HEAR NOTHING. He laughed and then showed me. This was his hunting machine.
Funny ..... the only thing he did, was he took a piece of hose the same size of the end of the muffer, push it up into it. THAT IS IT !!!! He unplugged the hose and showed me the difference of the two. Rived up his engine without the hose and it was really noisey. Put the hose on.
Amazing it was.
This made this machine run total silence. Believe it or not. Shocking but true. The hose run out of the muffler and turned 90 degrees run under his back rack. Had a couple of zip ties holding the hose onto the rack.
No need to go purchase one of them fancy " quiet muffler contraptions " that might not work. For I know for a fact, this "hose thingy" worked 110% !!!
Great for a gas burner.

No but adding a thick bedliner cut sound quite a bit. Adding a high intake made it loud again. Sometimes I wear my chainsaw earmuffs while driving just for a pleasant change/

Air intake of the 900 will bring sound closer to cab.
But will not change the muffler >>>>>:myopinion:

That is amazing Two Guns. We will have to try that on the 4 whlr. Was that radiator hose or something else? Thanks. bordercollie

I would worry about too much restriction on the engine trapping exhaust gasses and burning valves. I don't hear that well so all these sounds that bother you folks are just background to me!

bordercollie,
It was black in color, maybe some sort of heater hose, or a hose of quality.....
Really don't remember if it slide over the pipe or he shoved it up into. Now that I think about it some, seems like he put this hose OVER the exhaust pipe, for it was so easy for him to show me with it and without it. Took about a second to remover and install.

Like you muleman,
Don't really pay no attention to the noise of the RTV. Used to diesel engines anyway.
Weapon fire sure messed up my hearing for life !!!!

I agree, rock and roll, and gunfire took my hearing out. Got hearing aids but do not where them very often. Bothers the wife more than me.

What?

WHAT? I can't hear you.

Yea, me too.

As for the RTV noise, I pondered noise reduction but after awhile, I just got used to it. What I like about the diesel is that the volume seems to stay about the same whether at idle or full RPM. My father had a Polaris Ranger. It was pretty quiet at idle but you couldn't yell to your passenger sitting right beside you when at full speed. Glad he traded it for a RTV500 (which are pretty darn quiet).

it was probably a hydraulic hose they are ribber but will withstand alot of heat because of the oil heating up.just go by a hose supply shop and see if they have some or get me a measurement of the muffler tip on the rtv and i will pickup some old hoses. they have to change them on the cranes every five years no matter how good of condition they are in. i can get all sizes of them. they also make good replacement brake lines .my brother just throw them away when he changes them but i'll start collecting them incase you guys find a need for them.
