American Pride

TWO GUNS

Senior Member
Months ago, I was asked to help escort the Traveling Vietnam Wall, along with the Gold Dog Tag Tribute for Iraq and Afghanistan , WWII, Korea, Cold War, Police, Firefighter, 9/11 and more.
It was my honor to do so.
Yesterday, we escorted about 60 miles from inside Louisiana all the way over to Natchez, Mississippi. We had a Huey Gunship helicopter running above us during the escort. He, (the gunship), stayed right there the whole time. Can not describe the feeling of pride and honor.
I took my blue VTX cruiser motorcycle on this ride. Running number 13, we were running the motorcycles in pairs, side by side. When I would look back in my mirrors, as far as the Lord would let me see, I could see Vietnam vets, on their bikes, for miles and miles behind me. Oh, what a site to see my friends. It will bring tears to your eyes to see so much patriotism in these men.
This is a 360 foot replica of the memorial Vietnam Memorial wall. Every town we drove threw. We had people from all walks of life waving flags, whooping, hollering, showing support. The Sheriff's Offices, and Police, Ambulances, Fire Engines, all had sirens going on while we went threw.
One sighting I seen, was a elderly gentleman. Who happened to be standing by his truck and tractor, on the edge of a cotton field. He came from around his tractor, climbed into the back of his truck. Stood up on his tailgate, and saluted as the Memorial can by. I could tell, he was a true soldier from years ago. People, that will get to your heart !!!
Upon traveling threw my little town, I looked over, and seen my boys, they were in one of their trucks. And up in front of it, they have put up a USA flag and a POW / MIA flag showing their patriotic support, which made their father feel so really proud. And that proved, without a doubt, that when he was teaching them during their up-bringing. They were listening to every word I said >>>>>
I am proud to be a American.
GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!!!

Don't want this post to mis-represent anything. I did not go to Vietnam. I was asked by many to help escort them. Being I've been so close to many that has served over there, and having work beside them in many fields of life. And loosing many friends and family there, the honor was felt deep in my heart.
The brotherhood, the bravery, the bond, of these brave men who have done their duty over there, and there is not any words that can describe what I have seen in these men.
I remember well when they came home. I remember well how many did not. And to see others, that served in other wars. What they have lost. Just breaks me down.
For anything or anybody to show dis-respect to these men, throws me into a rage. I love them for who they are and what they have done to keep us living in the home of the free and the brave.
Dennis, It would be so very hard to take that look at the names, like you stated in your post. It brings tears to my face, and breaks my heart thinking of men that was killed there.
Can't describe the feeling I have helping these men. Working beside, eating, laughing, and sharing ideas of life. Doing all I can, to say, in my way, Thanks for all you have done for my country.
Give A Vet a Big Hug, Don't be surprised, for you will get a big hug right back. For they are the most careing people on planet earth !!!!
GOD BLESS OUR VETS !!!!

Its just plain wrong the way some people treat and blame the soldier who protect us. those guys well i should say all soldiers sjould get welcommes when they come home.they are not only fighting for our freedom they are fighting sn dieing so that someone in another country who doesnt even speak thier language will have a chance at freedom. I was born in 69' but if i would have been old enough i would have greeted them an not spit on them when. They came back.america needs to crack down an respect an give respect. Where its needed most.

Came back from Vietnam in 1972, Flight was scheduled to arrive at night so no-one would see us but families. Told to avoid wearing uniform off base and to be aware of potential hostilities. Those of us who were at the end of our commitment were allowed to grow hair/beards ect and sent to transition program for local employment with the caveat of playing down our military service. We came came come wounded, defeated and despised. Heres some who I had the honor of serving with and didn't come back to see our current disgrace.

They are but a few.

Those same folks who treated us badly are now our "leaders"

WTG.IM still a firm believer that if you want something totally screwed up let your Govt or a politition do it.To be totally Blut and taking the cxhance of this post being moderated any one I dont care who that treats any soldier or anyone who sacrificed for your country badly or disrespects then or talks ill of them can basically Kiss my Ass! Ill just leave it there before I go on a wild tangent.
Support our soldiers even if you dont support the GOVT policys or wars.
They fight for the freedomes you enjoy and most take for granted

Amen! They deserve honor and respect. Now a question for this time of year. What types of Christmas gifts would a serviceman like while being stationed overseas? I'm talking about in general for any soldier it could be handed to - Things like could be mailed in a shoebox?. Just something to show our respect and that they aren't forgotten. Thanks for a reply . bordercollie

BorderCollie,
There is a group doing just that or if you prefer to donate on your own that's fine too
Operation Shoebox

But they list a lot of suggestions of the items the soldiers need/want
Suggested Items

At work we have a yearly collection and send the items in.

Thanks for the links. I will see what I can do. Our Guys need to feel supported . Being so far from home and loved ones is hard.

vintovka: I returned from Vietnam in '67, '69, and '71 to airports on the West Coast ... Travis AFB and SFO twice, San Diego once. In '67 I was transported to Naval Hospital Oakland (Oak Knoll) to get put back together ... no public ground transportation on that trip. But no one ever hassled me or gave me any grief in any way and my flights never snuck in under cover of darkness. I never took off my uniform ... never gave it a thought that anyone might be foolish enough to give me any grief over that. I almost never paid for my own drinks at airport bars when I was in uniform, and seldom paid for a meal. One taxi driver refused to take my fare after driving me from Travis AFB to SFO. Total strangers treated me courteously, politely, and respectfully ... some stewardesses especially so. I always heard reports of people mistreating Vietnam vets ... if that was your experience, then that was your experience, but it wasn't mine. Someone owes you an apology.

You were more fortunate than us . By 1972-73 the defeatist attitude was at an all time high and was paid for by our enemies. Our group got "special attention" due to our losses and original mission. We had the ability and tools to end the war abruptly and were stood down due to the phony peace agreement with the VC. Their still finding my friends to this day. The our bright side was how quick the VC dumped the chinese after we were out of the way.

Any time I run into any one that has served, I thank them for their service. I would feel alot of pride when someone would acknowledge me for my service to our country. It seems small but it feels good to know some appreciate your commitment to our country. Thank You to all of you that have served and helped keep this country free. HooRah!
