Ball Mount Hitch for RTV 500

Hey all. Do I have to get a Kubota ball mount hitch for my RTV 500 or will any 2" reese-style hitch work? I did notice that the hole for the mounting pin is about 2 1/4 inches deep since the ball and hitch can only go in so far. The heavy duty reese hitch and ball that I had onhand would not fit because the holes for the hitch pin would not match up. The hole on that hitch was 3 inches in from the end, but I've seen others where the hitch pin hole was not in as far.

Thanks for the help.

The ball mount on my 900 is not Kubota supplied and it works fine. As you indicate as long as the pin holes line up when the hitch is inserted. Mine is rated at 3000lb where as the Kubota end is 2000lb. As long as you don't exceed the 500s' max you should be fine in my opinion.

Agreeing with Chanook Kanook, installed on our 900 is a Reese straight 1 1/4" hitch on the front, and a Reese 1 1/4"small drop " flipped" on the rear ....

Hitch on the front holds the winch hook and gives one something to tie on to when or if ever needed !!!!

Fact is, I have two for the rear, one has the 1 7/8" & one has the 2" balls installed, depending on what I'm fixin' to hook up to the right one is always there, and the other is in the strong box in the back just a waiting >>>>>

mr4 You may need to cut 3/4 to 1" off from the hitch that you have. I needed to do that for a mount I had on a pickup. Jerry

My 900 uses a 1 1/4" hitch. I bought a length of 1 1/4 " bar stock and made up several different ones. They all work fine . I used a power metal cutting band saw to cut it. If you buy a hitch that needs trimming, a mechanic or machine shop would probably trim it for you. Bordercollie

What others have posted about the need to cut down the length. I have a total of 11 hitches with different size balls and drops for a lot of different trailers. I hate to have to change balls or drop height so I can have the proper weight on the tongue. For the price of the hitch it is not worth the aggravation to wrestle the big wrenches to change the ball.

YOU GOT THAT RIGHT, DAMN THAT FIGHTING 'EM WRECHES WHEN A MAN CAN JUST POP AND GO !!!!!!

That's the way we are down here, we keep enough stuff to pull everything but a choo-choo train, and then, might find something in the strong box for that !!!

Let me throw out a little tidbit.

On the drawbars, keep them short. I don't recall the specs from the manual, but it was something like 500# at 7" out. If you put a long drawbar in there, there's more leverage and therefore downforce on the receiver and under a heavy load, it can damage the hitch.

I just went out and took a quick look at my 1100 and it has a flat piece of steel on top of the 1 1/4 inch receiver.......What do you think of welding a 2 inch receiver on top of the 1 1/4 inch hitch so you could have both receivers in case of an emergency........It looks like it would fit with no stress on the original weld..........What are your opinions.......

rusty that 1 1/4 will handle everything you need it to handle there is no need to weld a 2" up there what would be the emergency?? if the 1 1/4 broke ? just buy a spare one for the emergency or if your worried about the reciever it's self giving out then just beef it up some but to me there is no need to jump to a 2" reciever.

RA, I did just that on my RTV900. Fortunately, I noticed that it would impact with the aluminum transmission(?) housing when the axle flexed. Had to cut it off to prevent permanent damage. Then I made a i i/4 inch adapter with the two inch female receptacle welded on the bottom so I could still have a 2" receiver. Captain
