Beeper for Parking Brake

Someone once suggested on this forum that a beeper could be installed in-line with the parking brake liight. This installation would warn the driver when the parking brake is still applied while the key is turned on.

Well, I can't seem to remember to either look at the light or check the brake lever. When I use the brake, I apply very little pressure just so the RTV doesn't roll when parked. This lttle bit of pressure is not felt when driving with the brake applied. I'm sure the parking brake has gotten very warm in the past.

So, has anyone installed such a beeper for this warning? If so, please share information on the install. I've given up on my ability to check the brake, so maybe a beeper would help.

Parking brake is a good tool.

But I really don't use mine.
Reason being.
If I leave mine running, and leave it in gear, get foot OFF the fuel pedal.
It is not going anywhere !!!
Been many times on the side of the Mississippi river levee. That thing is very steep.
Leave it in gear, no roll >>>>

DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE AND KNOCK IT OUT OF GEAR AND STEP OUT, IT WILL ROLL LIKE YOU JUST THREW IT OUT
OF A AIR PLANE !!!!!
:a1:

It would have to take a dozer to move it.

I've had the same problem. One could hook a beeper to the light and go through the shifter as well, I would have to look under the box, but I'm thinking you could use both the position of the shifter and also the light being on. Doing this would avoid the sound when you are not in gear.

Good idea but might drive some of us nuts. Parking brake is a must on my land. Mine roll even on gentle slopes if brake is not used. Some slopes are so steep chocks must be used as well.

I installed an RED LED light ($3.85 from Radio Shack) just below the shifter. Easy to wire in. Light has 2 wires attached them to the two wires at the Parking Brake Light in the dash panel. The LED is bright enough to catch your attention in broad daylight. takes less than 15 minutes to drill, wire, solder & heat shrink connections and test.

My only warning, do not get over zealous when drilling. The LED light requires a 1/2" hole. Drill this is at least 4 steps. I did it in 2 and the laminate covering on the graphics panel lifted. Just cosmetic, but preventable.

Pepr, What about just wiring a warning device to the oem hand brake switch. This way it would only come on when the key is on and only when the parking brake light is glowing.. This would be very simple too. You could use an audible 12 v alarm or a light in a better position. I have a thread on the forum about replacing the switch -with some pictures. . There is a buzzer on amazon but not sure if it would work this way.. .. This is the one on amazon .[ame]http://www.amazon.com/Cole-Hersee-UNIVERSAL-BUZZER-VOLT/dp/B002IVAJMS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327287166&sr=8-1[/ame] Only problem I see is it would require turning the key off whenever the brake lever is used. This is what I would try.............. ............. bordercollie :doggy:

Easiest way IMO is to pick up a nice bright light and install it in the dash or next to the shift lever and run 1 wire to the hot wire on the existing switch and the other to ground. This way you wouldnt help but notice it being on..
Ive made that mistake many times and have put a lot of wear on the brakes.Im not sure how you would replace them or adjust them right now.
Maybe some one can chime in on this.

BEEPER

Hi Guys,
Heres one like the one they use on golf carts for reverse.
Only cost $2.19
You can adjust the volume by covering the hole with duct tape to meet your needs.

I installed a buzzer from a mack trucks warning lights in mine, Very loud had to stuff some paper towel in it to tame it a bit, works good.

I don't like beepers...

If you gave the emer brake a decent tug so it's holding nicely, you won't move 2 feet (if at all) before you realize you have your brake on. My emer brake is going on 8 years old and used every time I ride. It doesn't wear out so go ahead and give it a decent yank.

TwoGuns and BCzoom, your suggestions seem to make at least the most non-intrusive and economical sense! Sometimes I just over think things. I guess it's the engineer in me.

Thanks,
