Broken latch on factory glass windshield

I recently washed and cleaned my 2005 RTV900. After cleaning the w/s, I fastened the latches as usual. When I went back to use "The Buggie" two weekends later, I found the right-hand latch had apparently broken from the stress applied in the latched position. Has anyone else experienced this? Are the Curtis latches used by Kubota the same as on the tractor cabs? Captain

I did call a dealer. A new latch is $40. My question to this group is to determinehow manyother Owner's with the Factory glass w/s has had a latch break. I suspect the latch was installed too tight and that eventually caused the failure. The latch is made of a softer plastic than it appears it should. I think I can make a spanner wrench from a church key to have the tool necessary to remove the nut. I did not ask the dealer how much the labor would be to replace the latch due to the hassle of hauling the RTV 50 miles to the dealer. Check your latches. If they seem tighter than necessary, you might be well advised to loosen them. Captain

I have had both of my latches replaced. One was cracked, the other was too loose. My dealer replaced both, no charge (under warrantry.)

For I don't know if it was caused by the latch, but my dealers personal unit, he went to shut the front glass and during the closeing, went it so called snapped shut, he shattered the front windshield !!!! Talking about pissed >>>>>>>>>

I've seen a handful of broken latches. They are Curtis parts.

The latches on my 2005 unit were both broken at time of delivery. The Curtis engineer told me there was one badlot of latch components that didn't have enough moisture added to the polycarbonate compound during the molding process. This caused the latches to be brittle and break. The dealer replaced both latches under warranty. It's probably too late for credit butmaybe Curtis will give you a break on replacement parts.

Thanks for the advise. I sent Curtis an e-mail thru their website asking for a replacement. I will keep you posted. Don

Curtis's response was that I had to go back to my dealer. The Service Tech at Curtis did tell me that there was a bad batch of latches about April 2005 (incorrect resin mix?). I contacted my Kubota dealer, sent photos of the broken latch and was called back several days later. My Dealer advised Kubota would replace the latch. BTW when I went to the hunting lease this past weekend, I found the other latch also was cracking. Dealer is to do both as soon as I can get "The Buggy" transported to them. Hope this post will help someone else. Captain

The curtis latches on the RTVs IMHO are cheap junk and not worth the $40 dollar price tag. Both windshield latches on my 2006 RTV broke.I currentlyhave a place making me some new metal ones that will hold up.When I install them I will take some pics and post them.coobie
