Curtis plow with up/down hydraulic problem

Hi all, I purchased my RTV900 complete with the curtis plow that uses the hydraulic control for the dump box. I find it is difficult to control the plow hight and I'm either taking chunks of gravel or leaving too much snow. First day I even broke one of the brand new stock shoes. I tried putting 2 adjustable line throttle valves on the cylinder to slow it down, but it didn't really help as I think the flows are so low.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can slow the system operation?

I would look to replace the shoe sliders with heavier ones. The down speed or up speed shouldnt effect it as it floats when it is in the down position on the shoes.I know the stock shoes on the curtis plow are a bit light. Also you can use what we call drive way savers up here.Basically a 1 inch pipe split then you slide the pipe over the bottom steel plate of the plow blade. This way it will glide along the snow and not dig in.We use them up here on sand driveways as to not to dig into the sand.Like I said the lift and lower speed should make no difference as with the chain on it it is ment to float along the ground.Others may have other suggestions or opinions on this...
PS a picture or 2 of the setup is always helpful...

The plow is really not meant to be held off the ground with the plow lift, that's the job of the shoes.
This is what works for me.
I made 2 shoes out of 1/2" flat stock. Mine are about an 1-1/2" wide but anything about an inch to two would be fine.
They use 2 of the cutting edge bolt holes and go under the edge and keep the cutting edge off the ground !/2".
They work much better for me than the stock shoes and were easy to make.
Can be removed after the ground is frozen and there is a base built up.
Hope this helps.
JEFF
