TWO GUNS

Truely believe that saving money is great ! All for That !!! We all work hard for our money !!!! But it is besides me why people piss and moan about spending the extra nickel to get something of quality for thier utv's. I seen the other day, the biggest joke in the world. A man had a new RTV with a set of battery operated flashlights duck-taped to his unit so in the dark, he could see behind his bed. That just about blew me away. Here he was, driving a $40,000 truck, pulling a $3,000 trailer, sitting on top was a $11,000 Kubota RTV. I could not help but ask him, " what's these for"? After he told me that impliment lights that suppose to bolt on the unit cost to much, I like to have passed out !!!! Then, he had the RTV tied down with some sort of grass rope string. Now, I might sound out of the way, but that is pushing it to far. Believe that a man is going to have that much of aninvestment, he could go ahead and get the proper, and quality things that go RIGHT with it. Reminds me of the man who purchased a $1,400 rifle, and was gripping about the cost of a set $32.00STEELscope rings to mount a $700 scope......He said he just might get the aluminum rings, there $7.00 cheaper !!It just don't make sense the way some people think....... I'm Sorry, but that just burns me up !!!</P>

I feel your pain Two Guns, it blows me away every time I see too. Motor Cycles, ATV's and Boats not properly secured to a trailer; or worse yet, a high priced piece of equipment on a POS trailer about to fall apart. I just don't get it either.

Amen. Somehow so many people think that their 3000lb single axle trailer will haul just about anything they can fit on the deck. </P>

I am currently looking for a trailer to haul my Kubota RTV 900. I have a few questions about a trailer for hauling an RTV. First will a single axle trailer work? A single axle is my preference but if I have to go double axle then I will. If a double axle trailer is required then can I pull this type of trailer with my Nissan Pathfinder? I looked at a twelve foot (length) to haul it. I am hoping this will be long enough. Any recommendations on a trailer to haul my RTV would be greatly appreciated.

RTV's are typicaly right at the limit for single axle trailers. I've done it before, its okay. Fine for short distances, but I would not want to drive hours with it back there.

I had my tandem 16 ft trailer loaded with some other piece of equipments once. Instead of doing whatwas right. I figured I would just run the RTV on the single axle trailer and move it to the farm 22 miles away. I WILL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN !!!!!I learned right then and there !!!! Matter of fact. For the return trip back to my home, I leftthe RTV at theplantation house, came back and got the tandem trailer to run it back.In my opinion,.the single axle trailers are NOT for the RTV's or anything of that caliber. It is just to much pushing the limit on a trailer. Also, a tandem trailer is easier to back up, safer, and you have a choice of what you want to haul, big or little. With a single axle, you have your limits, you can't haul more, but with a double-axle, you have a choice, you can go smaller in cargo if your want, big or small ~~~~~~</P>

I have a 16 footer tandem, I can haul my RTV 900 & the Honda Rubicon on one load. Or just one or the other. Or, either something to ride, plus barrels, other equipment, deer stand, you can load it any way you want. A person can even go toa 14 footer tandem . I have both now, and never use the 14 ft. For I'm always hauling more stuff and the 16 does me more good.</P>

But with the single axle, you have one squirrelly nightmare. Swaying with that RTV, and traveling down the road like a preacher that's done had to much to drink .... I'll never be that weak again !</P>

KEZ - a 12' 3000# trailer will be right at max weight when the RTV is loaded. Like others, I'd recommend going with a higher weight capacity trailer.

Check your owners manual on what your Pathfinder can haul but I'm going to guess it's probably about 6000#. If you don't expect to be hauling anything bigger than the RTV, I'd probably stick with a 14'. My 18' weighs around 2000# empty so with the RTV, I'm around 4000# loaded. A 14' trailer probably weighs in at around 1400# empty so with the RTV loaded, you'ld be at 3400# which should be fine for your Pathfinder. At 14', you'll also have ample length to set the RTV forward or backward to adjust for tongue weight.

As always, check your States requirements for brakes, inspections, tie-down requirements and such.

In general, a tandem axle always tows better than a single axle. Having 4 tires on the ground keeps it pulling straight. I have several trailers and the tandem axle always pulls better (especially if the load isn't properly balanced left to right)

Something like this may suit you nicely.
http://www.bigtextrailers.com/trailers/tandem_axle/40sp.html

It's a 4000# rated trailer with brakes on 1 axle.

On the same site, look at their model
50LA-12 which is a 5000# trailer but only 12' long. They have several options...

It's going to come down to preference on length (but I'd get at least 12' long). To haul the RTV, you should have something rated for at least 4000#. I don't know what state you're in but in many states, it's required to have brakes on trailers over 3000#. A brake controller forr your truck will be needed but most are under $100.

bczoom and everyone else...thanks for the info on a trailer to haul my RTV 900. I am from Canada so our laws may be a little different.
