Dark Dash at night.

Hello Everyone:

I got my new baby today : ) It is a bummer I can't really test it much.]I have a lot of snow on the ground] I have zoomed it up and down the drive way a few times though.

I just took the wife for her trip up the driveway [I also wanted to see how good the headlights were][not bad] I did notice the dash ispretty dark. I know some have added dome lights, but is anyone adding any thing for lights to the dash?Or is it not a problem once you are more familiar with the machine?

Welcome to the club Glenn. I have a dome light that was designed for Jeeps with a roll bar, it just straps onto the ROPS with supplied cable ties, that being said there are times at night when I just don't want to light up the whole cab, either because I don't want to lose my night vision, or I don't want to stand out like a sore thumb out in the field. My solution was to purchase a 12 volt plug in map light. The cigarette lighter (excuse me, power port in today's more politically correct parlance) is just below the center of the dash and lighting up a small LED light right there gives me all the light I need to find the various switches, confirm what gear I'm in et cetera. A pretty nice one is at: http://www.tirerack.com/accessories/hella/map_light.jsp

But you can find cheaper (less bright) versions almost at any auto parts store.

Enjoy yourself!

Hi !! Glad to hear the new baby has arrived, What 's it's name? It usually takes a while but most of us have come up with one for ours. Do the lights in you gauges work? I agree it is dark even with them but you will get use to it . I have been thinking about getting one of those tinygreen light leds that clip on base ball hats and such.. They are called cyclops orion . They are less than$20 on amazon. I 'believe I will rig up one of these push button lights to shine downward from the roof bottom.... maybe velcro or such. Thenit would be there for other uses too. I sent you a private message reply by the way. let me know if you don't get it. You and Mrs. Hammerhead have fun with the new family member!! Thanks guys:

I have to keep going out to the barn to make sure that it is real that I have an RTV now... I have wanted one since they came out. I don't have a name for it yet... but yes itneeds something.

Yes my gauges are lit.I had planned to put a dome light in it.. but I think I may put something else for dashlights in it. I may go with an LED map light.. but I have found some 12 led lights I may wire in. Maybe something under the dash.. and or something for the top of the dash with a shield so the lights only light up the dash.

Oh Yes, It is a great felling !!!!! ~~~~ Ita privilege!!! [:D] [:D] [:D]

My light is at the top/rear of the ROPS pointing inward and lights the entire cab area.

OK, gotta mess with you a bit here.... Are you then going to put them under the RTV? I think they're called "ground effect" lights? Will you get them in orange? Just kidding.

What I'd propose is you carry a flashlight in your pocket for awhile before deciding. Every time you end up using it, keep track of what you needed to light. For me, lighting the entire cab is best. For others that are hunting, the less light the better. You'll find that the location of things on the dash that aren't illuminated, you'll learn their location by touch.

Hammerhead,

Did you ever get your overhead panel installed ?

[/quote]

Yes Jamie.. the panel is installed. I do not have the wiring all complete yet. Maybe today. {So far} I have mounted2 forward work lights [mounted on the roof], 2 rear work lights [also roof mounted] I have the jeep roll bar light as a dome light, a cargo box light [under the edge of the roof, and a light under the bed.

Brian I missed your last post here. I wanted to get my wheels on before I did the underneath LED's.. I am not sure what color.. not orange.. but something to compliement the orange [:)]

Hey Glenn and welcome aboard..............for me, the small map lights work great........the Hella's are very adjustable and shielded so you dont get light reflecting off of the rear window or windshield...............

Ours plugs into cigarette lighter outlets on the dash or in the overhead panel..........The overhead works off of a lighted switch; but I really dont like the way it lights up the total cab when trying to navigate through the trees..............Dennis

Hey Glen, Since everyone is picking on you today and letting me alone, I have to pick on someone else........Why don't you get GLOW STICKS like Jamie and Brian use........Just break them in half and they light up in color..........LMAO........[:D] I should talk,,,,I am a still waiting for lights and everything else.........I just might make the dealer mad and go and buy elsewhere..........

This form has been dull for the past few days.............No comments or questions.........Hope I got something started and we have something to read and entertain ourselves........

If you're going with LED's in the cab, may I propose you use red? It won't affect your night vision.

For ground effect, I think neon blue would be a nice accent color.
