Dual Battery Setup Help

I want to run some lights and accessories without draining the starter battery. Are there any places to locate a second battery? I have not found a good location, any ideas? Please provide any pics of successful dual battery mounting.

What year/model RTV do you have?
I have a 2004 RTV 900. The air filter is located on the opposite side as the battery. I removed that air filter and put in a high rise which freed up that area. A battery could be put there.
That said, I too had many accessories and it would kill the battery. I just replaced the OEM battery with a deep cycle marine battery. That solved the problem completely. If I ran the accessories a lot during the day, I'd just put a trickle charger on it overnight.
As an added precaution (but never needed it with the RTV), I have several jump starter battery packs. They're about the size of a paperback book and they'll easily start the RTV.

if the battery is being drained by the accessories then you need a higher amp alternator. shouldn't be a big problem to change out. maybe one for an x1100c would work because of the cab heater airconditioner an extra fans. should be higher amps????

My RTV-X900 has dual batts and they are both located side-by-side between the left/rear wheel and the driver’ seat on the left side behind the batt access grill. They are served by a battery isolator. All installed by dealer.... and useless, IMO. It was done so the second batt serves the Warn winch....another useless item. I’ve never used either, although I’m in rough, Texas Hill Country, lots of creek-bottoms, steep hillsides, etc etc.... never been stuck, never needed winch... just something else to maintain and have to replace a battery every few years.
A better solution, IMO is to throw away that little garden-tractor battery and install a larger capacity truck battery.

Thanks folks!! The RTV in question is an X1100C. Instead of the dual battery I am going to replace the original battery with an Optima yellow top and keep one of those portable jump starters plugged into the 12V socket. Does that sound like a good plan? What size Optima would fit best, the 34/78? Is there a different battery that would be a better fit?

The original Kubota batteries last and last. I've run additional lights and a winch on occasion and never had issues with the battery.
Having a jump starter handy would be a good idea but I'm not sure spending for an optima is going to gain you that much over the original Kubota battery.
