ENGINE CONVERSION

I know and respect that the stock RTV900 as a well built machine and realize it has power enough for its intended design, but sometimes it would be nice to have a little more. I have looked into the the turbo upgrade kit at $2995. and it looks like a nicely made setup, but I also know something else. I know that the D905E engine is part of whats called a five series engine. I also know that the larger displacement 3 cylinder D1105E and the D1105TE engines are also in the five series. I also know all three of these are identical in physical dimensions. What I dont know is if the back flywheel housing of the stock RTV D905E engine is the same SAE 5 bellhousing found on the five series induustrial engines. The reason I am interested is that I often come across these engines, and for me it would be a lot cheaper if not more work to do a swap then pay up for the turbo kit, and I would have my D905E left over for free. That is if it would bolt up. The D905E, D1105E and turbo D1105TE at 3000 rpms are rated at 22.5, 25 and 31.5 HP respectively. The torque differences are more noticable at roughly 41.5, 51.5 and 65 foot pounds. If nobody knows or could find out about the bellhousing I think I will try and do some measurements and or comparisons as I have a few of the D905E industrial engines around to compare, once it stops raining/snowing over here!

Thats a really interesting idea. I'd think there is enough room even if these other engines are a bit larger. Have you checked the Kubota-Engine website? I think they may have some schmetics online. </P>

I'm always up for more power.

Question. To my knowledge, the RTV has the D902E, not the D905E. Did they rename the engine? If it is the D902E, does it have the same size/footprint as the larger engines?

My understanding is the only real difference between the d905 and a similar configured d1105 is the displacement. It would be similar to swapping in a 350 chevy in place of a 305 or 307,327 etc. I do see my model has the CA smog sticker on the valve cover that says it complies with the 2005 CA diesel emmisions. Do you 49 state guys have that on your engines as well?
I was jumping the gun the other nite as I really only took delivery of my very used Kubota RTV W model just yesterday. Its a 2005 or 2006 and has 640 hard miles on it. It was owned by Granite construction which is a road company here in CA and it looks like the Guys went out of their way to run into things. Its not too bad, but its a great candidate for a future swap. I understand guys who bought theirs new wouldnt be real excited to tear out their engines right away. But boy my first impression is this thing really climps. I went up my back hill after about 4 inches of rain in the last 3-4 days and I was all prepared to have to back down, but it didnt even slip once! I own or have owned all kinds of tractors tracked loaders Lockered and air locked up Jeeps and normal old L and B series Kubota tractors and this climbs as good or better then anything I have owned. I guess the fact that its so light comparitivey is what really helps. And that hydrostat is like throwing out an anchor when you lift your foot off of the gas. The first few times I felt like I was gonna go thru the front (windowless) window!

Yes I have seen the sight and often use it for information gathering. As you might already know If you click on the appropriate engine(s) one of things it brings up physical dimensions. Thats where my idea started. I just need to get a d1105E or preferably D1105TE. I just sold 7 or 8 D905s and can get those pretty easily but I havent found any D1105s. Had some larger 4 bangers but that would be a whole different job and I doubt that would be feasable or even a good idea.
