Fert/Granular Spreader Advice

OK, no more pics (unless you want them).

Look at the spreader mounted (post 11176). At the bottom of the hopper, right where it turns to the black steel is the arm for opening/closing the grate to allow fertilizer to flow. This is the arm that I would like to control from the seat.

Dennis - Does this help with your questions? Being mounted vertical and hanging off the tailgate, there's no bracketing or anything to the receiver. You just hang it, plug it in, fill it up and off you go. Putting it on/off takes about 1 minute...

Last thought/comment.

That John Deere plate on the back is for fun and sarcasm. Have at me if you want. [:P][:|][D]

Mr. Brian.............YOU are a true HERO............................golly can't thank you enough for your trouble...............that is a Bumper Buddy right...????? like this http://www.gamefeedersonline.com/bumperbuddy.htm</P>

On mine, the steel band is below the plastic rib >>>>>.</P>

Friendly note, where the wires go into the motor, the hole is to big, fertilizer and seed will get into the motor, Seems like they would of put some sealant to begin with , but anyway , Put you some 100% clear silicon sealant where that is. keeps everything out of the motor. The fertilizer will rust inside the motor if it gets in there, I know, had to take the motor apart and get out the fertilizer, which I heard shakin' around in there when taking the motor off the " support rod ". Already started rusting up bad >>>>>> Now how them little grains find it's way in there is beyond me, but it found a way. Had about two tablespoons full !!!!</P>

Dennis,

Yep, it's a Bumper Buddy. I got mine from Hunterworks (and they're a great group of people).
Actually, I did a google search on the Bumper Buddy just now and poof, here's another thread about them on this site. Member ajdillon (Andrew) has the same spreader on the <u>front</u> of his RTV.
Here's the link

Jamie (TWO GUNS),
"On mine, the steel band is below the plastic rib >>>>>."

I thought you caught me screwing up as you're right, the band should be below the rib. Look closely at the pics. My plastic actually has 2 ribs and the band fits between them. Well, it's supposed to but the ribs are a bit too close for the band to fit directly between them. Must have got one of those when they switched to the double band but before someone figured out "WTF, we didn't make the ribs wide enough for the band to fit between them. Someone measured on-center wrong...".

Dennis,</p>You're quite welcome but I'm not a hero. Our soldiers are. I'm just a helping hand. If shipping wouldn't kill the deal, I would have mailed you my spreader. Now, if rapracing would just see this thread and decide he wants one, he's only a couple hours away.

I see it now. Just didn't want you to have a load, and it just " POP " out. My mistake !!! </P>

That company, ON TIME, is here in Louisiana, about 2 1/2 hrs from the farm. Use alot of there equipment. and let me say this, I have never seen a company stand behind their products like them folks do. They are nothing but a phone call away if something goes wrong, they have ALWAYS just sent the replacement part ASAP ... No questions asked. Heck, that company even replaced at no charge, 13 auto-deerfeeder timers, this winter alone, that the black bears has destroyed. When they say they have a unconditional lifetime warranty., dammit, they mean it !!!!! I have even told them that the bear done the damages, and I will pay to have them fixed or replaced, they said it don't matter, they stand behind there products .....the replacement charge is ZERO !!!! </P>

THAT 'S WHAT I CALL A SUPERIOR COMPANY !!!!!! [:O]</P>

Hey, no mistake. If I didn't see that 2nd rib, I may have installed it wrong. Glad you advised.
That company, ON TIME
OK, you mentioned this company "on time" twice. Got a link to their site? What do they sell. Customer service is high in my book and if they have something I want/need, I may do business with them instead of elsewhere.

Jamie and Brian.............thanks again to both of you for your help and courtesy to this ol boy.........................outa here for a few days......gotta trek up to Northern Ohio and pick up my Airstream. It's an 89 that has now a new polish and clear coat, belly skin, heat pump, wood floor, and many other little things............Best part is is that it's paid for...........God is so good..............See you when I get back and get that BB ordered..........................then gotta wire the new lights.......on and on.....God Bless...........Dennis

Well, if you happen to see this before you leave, let me know your route. Depending on where you're going in N, OH, you may be driving right past me. I have a BB spreader for sale that you may be interested in as you pass by...

Brian...........Finally ordered the BB from an outfit down in LA................Maybe Jamie knows him..........up by MANY................Anyway, searched and searched for someone who had a bracket like yours that fits over the tail gate...............Finally did find this ol boy that supplies them with the Bumper buddy........</P>

When we did our recent wiring for the driving and back lights, we include an accessory set of plugs at the rear just for this along with a switch on the panel I built.......Soooo it looks like that little quest is finally over.............Again, thanks for YOUR help</P>

D/D FARM ~~ </P>

Happy you got it all covered !!!! Did you take a look at the " hole" the wires go into on the motor ? . Does your model have it covered up good. If not, need to take the step like I mentioned in a earlier post on this subject.... PLUG THAT HOLE >>>>>> with clear silicone sealant !!!!</P>

Seed and fertilizer will find it's way into the electric motor !!!</P>

Another thing, if you have the model where the motor slides on a shaft, ( stem ) sticking down from the funnel ... Just a friendly note, be careful, with that stem, it will bend and break. Replacement funnel is around 16.00 plus shipping. Also, be careful with the thumb set screw, it you don't watch it, a person will over tighten and strip it out..... I know, I've done both !!!!!!</P>

If you don't have the shaft style, just forget what I just wrote, it will not matter ~~~~~</P>

2 Guns..............am waiting for delivery.........ordered it Saturday........When I ordered it I talked with the fella who does the actual fabrication of the bracket about several things................YES........I discussed with him about the hole in the motor that needs sealant and he said that you had a very good idea in doing that.............Will come back and reference what you say here about the other things to watch for..........THANKS BUD.............Dennis

I have a Polaris ATV spredder. I used it on the polaris for 9 years (no problems) to spread on 20 arces of hay field in the spring when to soft for tractor. Spredder holds 1 80lb bag. I kept it when I traded for the RTV. For me, no question, I'm mounting it to the front reciever. This allows me to stabilize to the front simply by attaching a ratchet strap to the brush guard. Unit now supported top and bottom. No perminent attachment to RTV. I would think being able to see the spread would be a big advantage to you on side hills. Electrical conector under the hood, hidden until needed. On-off switch on dash to controll flow. You will always find a stray pellet finding you whether you hook-up front or back if you spread in windy conditions. No wind no strays with this spreader. Spray pattern is 25ft. About half of my PTO tractor spreader. I learned that a slight tilt up of the spinner did wonders for the pattern.

Dennis,

Of course, we want a full report once you get it. The bracket that goes over the tailgate may need a little "tweaking". It's a "universal" mount so some bending may be required. If not already supplied, you may want to install something between the bracket and the tailgate so it's not metal-on-metal and scratches if/as it vibrates.

ex chair,

To my knowledge, Polaris doesn't actually make it. I'm guessing it's a re-branded spreader made by someone else. Any idea who made it? Got any pics?
No name on it. Packed away for winter. I agree Polaris is great at re-gifting. Photos in the spring.
</P>

Did it look anything like this ?????? [*-)]</P>

Personally, I don't like putting those side stresses on the reciever............that 60-80 pounds of stress on the end of a lever is no telling how much as one hits a hole going sideways on a hill..............sooooooo.....for me, having cleaned many pairs of drawers working on my hillsides, tend to be a bit conservative.............</P>

BC.............I talked with the fabricator of the brackets about it vibrating and scratching on the tailgate.............I plan to use a piece of 1/4 inch plywood on each side of the tailgate, front, top,and back, to try to aleviate this...........can't tell till I get it in my hands though..................We also discussed draping an old blanket over the tailgate and down to help with this and also the spreader overspray/spread..........</P>

Anyway............see you then.........Dennis</P>

Hey guys, sorry I got to this party late. I had one of those Bumper Buddy spreaders on my RTV, but I busted off the electric motor going thru some brush. I went out and got a better feeder/spreader from All Seasons Feeders at http://www.allseasonsfeeders.com/shop/index.php?cPath=4</P>

This one has a protective box around the motor and shuts off automatically when the power is removed. The Bumper Buddy requires you tp get out and move the lever to shut it, otherwise all the corn/seed/feed runs out. It came with heavy duty tailgate brackets that I extended so it would fit on either side of the raised center portion of the brush guard. I bought some clear neoprene tubing and spiral cut it to wrap around the brush guard rail to keep the paint from scratching up and then bolted a rubber pad to the RTV name plate in the middle of the brush guard. It rides quiet and tight now. Picture below:</P>
