Hi, on my 900rtv it developed a loud rattle towards the front end when I am in 2wd and when my speed reaches 8mph, it does not matter what gear I am in. When I put it in 4wd the rattle is about the same as it has always been. I am wondering if anyone else as had the same isssue. It worked great last friday and come to work on tuesday an it started with the rattle.

Does it sound like it's in the drive train?

Can you check to see if the rattle is in the front u-joint on the drive shaft going to the front end? Grab it and see if it wiggles.

Does the noise change if you put it in 4 wheel drive?

How many hours are on your machine and what year? Bczoom has probably diagnosed your problem correctly as the notorious drive shaft rattle. I would also check the carrier bearing should you deem it necessary to replace the shaft. It is just under the seat and is where the rear and front shafts meet. It has to be removed when changing the ujoint/shaft out and will sometimes give trouble if debris or mud has gotten in it. When it goes out it will either squeal, or sound and ride like a log wagon if it falls apart..Lot of us have done the cornjo repair. (I forgot the proper spelling of it) but do a search under RTV drive shaft rattle on here and it should pop up in other threads. It has worked pretty good for me but I will need a new shaft soon. The only thing that I am hesitant about is the Friday/ Tuesday thing. All lug bolts tight? Any thing loose under the hood ? any hitch the front receiver that might rattle? Good Luck. Bordercollie.

The machine is a 2008 with 1020 hours on it. Use is on road construction, so it is in water, mud and sand depending on the day. Can anyone recommend a parts house to order u-joints/ bearing and or shaft. Would the new u-joints and bearing happen to come with grease fittings? I had the a rattle 6 weeks ago so I sprayed JB80 on the bearing and the noise went away, now it does not seem to help.

The folks at Messick's Equipment are on here some and are good folks. I order from there. They are in Pa but ship fast. google Messicks equipment. I have replaced mine several times and none have had grease fittings -but it would be a good idea. Bordercollie
