FYI ....
Thanks to BCzoom and a member of our forum I can offer up the following:
Member sent BC the following message:
Lately I have received a "oops! error - your IP address has been banned" when I call up your website.
The user knew he had not done anything to be banned, a long time member and a site supporter.
BC and I both doubled checked, he was not banned.
He was using a Safari browser. Next he tried Firefox and was able to access the forum as usual.
We worked to see what the Safari IP address was but we could not see it. The Firefox IP was fine. No issues.
Member was using a Macbook Pro. We tried things for a few days to no avail. It made no sense. On the same computer the IP address would be the same for Safari as it is for Firefox. We were stumped.
Then BC got this from the member:
I think I found the problem as to why it was just Net Tractor Talk that Safari was having trouble with!
I had just installed a new operating system and Safari's default setting is to "Hide IP address from Trackers and Websites". I changed it to "Hide from Trackers only" and now I have been able to log in without problem.
Very interesting. It appears this is a 'feature' of Xenforo software. I did not set this setting in the software but I am glad it is there. So, as BC suggested, we should share this info with our members and potential members. I've never seen an option to hide my IP from Trackers and Websites in my browser but if Safari has it I doubt the other browsers will be far behind.
