Headlights will not work

Concerning my 1983 John Deere 750 compact tractor, my hazard, work, and tail lights all work perfectly but my headlights will not work. The sockets each have two contacts and I have power to one of the contacts in each socket but no power to the other contact in each socket. Any ideas as to why the headlights won't work? Also, there are three wires going into each socket, two smaller and one bigger wire. What are these designated for? Thanks.

I have notes about this but not with me. It was from a 770.
Check the fuse first. Also could be loose wire at the back of the fuse box going to that fuse.

Do you have dash lights on that tractor?
IIRC, the fuse for the headlights is the same as the dash lights. If you've lost both, fuse or loose wire, probably right behind that fuse at the block.

The TM1242 Technical Service Manual can be downloaded for free off the YTOG.

I do have 3 red indicators on the dash, all are working. the backlight for the tach does not work.
These are the only accessible bulbs to service on the dash.

For the Tach light, ideally you need to bring it to a Deere service dealer for repair. The reason being, they don't want people messing with the hour meter recorded time on the machine to roll it backwards.

There are YT vids on how to 'carefully' take the tach apart without busting it. It's a long process due to the specialized seals and clamping rings of that era.
