Hydraulic oil strainer problems – MF135 Multipower UK?

I’ve got what seems to be an oddball (possibly UK) MF135 Multipower that needed a hydraulic oil strainer replacement.

I started by removing the PTO control side plate, but once it was off I realized there’s some kind of valve body blocking about two-thirds of the opening. I was able to reach in and get the old strainer assembly unscrewed, but then found out the hard way that I couldn’t pull the strainer assembly out through that hole – it’s simply too big to fit.

At that point, there were no other options that I could see other than to pull the top cover off the hydraulic section of the tractor to replace the strainer from above. I’ve now but I’m a bit worried about getting everything back together correctly.

Does anyone have diagrams, manuals, or any detailed info specific to this version of the MF135 Multipower? Most of what I’m finding online seems to apply to other versions and doesn’t quite match what I’m seeing on my tractor.

At this point I’m really feeling like I should have left it alone… hindsight is 20/20.

The 135 with multipower wasn't all that common, but the manual for the 165 multipower tractor would cover the same material. Have you gotten to the screen yet or are you still working at that? You can remove the coupler and drive shaft and make access much easier. Just pull the cotter pin out and the shaft slides back into the coupler and it all lifts out. The only tricky part I see would be putting the lift cover back on, getting the vertical links back in place correctly and the roller back in proper position.

Ugh. That’s what I’m dreading. I see myself pulling this thing off and putting it back on a few times. I actually pulled the strainer assembly off by reaching around the obstruction behind the PTO lever plate. I just couldn’t get it out of the hole thus having to take the dang top off. I didn’t realize that I wasn’t supposed to take the lift off til it was too late.
