Jerky motion and hard to put into gear

Hi, all I just picked up an LA105 previous owner supposedly ran over a garden hose and said it needs a new drive belt. I checked and the belt is still there. It moves and everything but it’s quite difficult to move the stick with my right hand forward for forward or backwards for reverse. When I do move it, the mower jerks forward or backward as if I was flooring. I checked to see if the linkage was getting caught on anything but it didn’t seem like it. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
First - are you changing gears while moving? I don't think you're supposed to do that on your tractor and doing so can cause damage. I'd check the manual.
Second - check to make sure you are not low on transmission fluid.
Third - although the belt is there, it can be worn or damaged when he ran over the hose. A new belt may resolve it.
Forth - you checked the linkages already. If the first 3 things I noted don't correct the issue, check the linkages again. If something got jammed into a linkage making it not move freely, you may have an issue. Also make sure no rods or parts are bent.
Lastly - you may have internal transmission problems. Let's hope not.

Thanks! I was changing gears while moving, while stopped, and with the engine off and every time it was hard to do so.
I believe it is a sealed trans so I can’t check the fluid, and I also heard it’s filled with grease. Am I correct?

Oops, yep - it's a sealed tranny. Let's cross that off the list.
I'd install a new belt next. It should be around $20 for the belt and not too difficult to install.
