Just bought this Kubota FS-250 DC welder. I can find no mention of this welder on the internet, including the Kubota website. It is powered by a Kubota diesel that is labeled "ER 1400-NBW" and has a oil screen but no filter. It has a hand crank for emergencies and a compression release. No hour meter. Generates 220 AC but not 110 AC. Manufactured in Osaka, Japan. 50%duty cycle. Previous owner had no information on the machine. Plan to haul it with my RTV900. It weighs about 400 pounds.

Were there any more?

This sounds like a one of a kind gray market import.

Now you need to find 220V hand tools - angle grinder etc to run from the AC outlet. Anybody know of sources in the US?

Explain: Gray Market? Nice idea about 220V hand tools.

Grey market refers to an item that was brought into a country and sold by some other person rather than the licensed manufacturer or distributor. IE all those 15 year old right hand drive vehicles that are being imported from Japan.

... And I think all the Eastern Hemisphere runs on 220v out of the wall, so that is where I would expect to find 220v hand tools. Or maybe Ebay?

I expect in the US you would find 220v mostly on the kind of equipment that is hard-wired to the building wiring.

Kubota won a case re 'gray' imports and now there is a standing court order directing US Customs to refuse entry at the dock for any tractor that is not on the list of models Kubota sold through their US dealers. Likewise the US dealers won't touch a gray model tractor or provide parts, they could lose their dealership.

So if that is a gray model welder you might get a cold shoulder if you inquire about support. The good news is it's a Kubota and should run for years. There's probably a US Kubota generator etc that shares filters and repair parts, just tell the dealer that's what you have.

Generator

I have a second hand generator (not Kubota) and its wiring, to my understanding, can be connected internally at a junction box on the case to be either in series or parallel so it can give either 115 or 230 volts, covering all markets. Might be worth having someone who knows check it out.

Thanks. I will look into it.
