L.E.D. Traffic Advisor

I had bought this Whalen amber colored L.E.D. lightbar to put in my unmarked cruiser a few years prior to my retirement from the State Police. Traffic on the interstate was getting crazy, so I made the investment to make sure I lived long enough to collect my retirement. When I retired I put the L.E.D. in the back of the RTV 1100 and use it when I have to use the public dirt road to get to my firewood cutting sites. Since the top end on the RTV is about 24 m.p.h., I put the light on every time I am on the road. One time a guy came up behind me at about 70 m.p.h. in the 35 m.p.h. zone. The very bright L.E.D.s caught his attention and avoided a traffic collision. XTROOPER

That one time paid for them many times! Good idea.
I wonder how many collisions were avoided you never realized?

The driver came up on me on a corner and was clearly driving in a very reckless manner. He was driving from one side of the road to the other. Was glad I had the "retina burner" on. XTROOPER

.... That is super.

We have a set of 24" LED's for the front of the RTV, which is mounted on brush guard.
And a set of 48" that goes across the back of the back like yours.
Been a reserve officer for many years for the Sheriff's Office & Police. ( Only officer on
that don't receive a check, for reason I mark all the units with the company ).
Use in patrol of the levees when high water is here. Special events . Used much during
emergency runs. Search party.... etc ...
They are a fantastic tool for safety.
Removed and stored until needed again.
They are not cheap by no means.

XTrooper,
In your picture, do I happen to see a levee in the background ?

Always wanted light bars like you're using. Ended up using a pair of Ecco strobes on the roof which work well.
In a way, I'm glad I didn't go with a full light bar. When in snow or fog, the front one in particular can really mess with your visibility.

good investment on your life there. one thing i laways wondered was when a cop has someone pulled over why not install a dimmer switch to slightly dim the lights .there have been way to many times when me and the wife was driving home and a cop had someone pulled over and them blue lights blind the heck out of you.i can understand when your in pursuit or in the process of pulling someone over but after you have them on the side the road flashing blinding lights into the eyes of traffic isn't a great idea.a normal car breaklight can be seen for atleast 2 miles so why not have a dimmer to lowers down the brightness on them when your on the side of the road.they have a bunch of people that put them white red and blue leds on their atv when they go riding at the parks and everyone says they need to yank thm off because of the blinding affect they have.they should all switch to the orange like you .also there was a guy injured at mud nationals this past year where he got his thumb yanked off by the winch.the rescue guys was trying to make their way to him with their red and blue lights flashing but not one person gave them the right of way because 5 out of 10 riders out there was riding around flashing the same colors and everyone just thought it was just another atv with leds on it.you should get a set for the front of your rtv too for when your plowing snow or for on coming traffic.great idea you have there with the orange led's maybe even some side markes too better safe than dead.

Around here, red and blue are reserved for emergency and law enforcement vehicles. White illuminating the rear is not legal on the roads except when backing up.

Amber (yellow) are used for your vehicles as a cautionary measure.

down here state troopers are always blue the ems is red but in lafouche parish they have both red/blue on their cars.good idea to have the yellow leds on a tractor or utv or even in a can if your broke down

Two Guns-That is not a levee in the background. I live in Pennsylvania about 3 miles from the New York state line. That is New York state in the background.

I was very happy with the way the bed sides came out. I pile the bed up with wood and have a trailer that I put the same type of bed sides on. The RTV has hauled a lot of wood this year. Here is a picture of the metal tubing I had welded to attach the bed sides. Really happy at how they have led up so far.

The neighbors told me the other day they didn't think there was any wood left on my mother-in-laws property because I go by their farm with giant loads of firewood about every day. They get a kick out of the amber lights going by and the neighbor wants to have her husband put a set of lights on the RTV 900 they just got. I didn't have the heart to tell her it wasn't worth the money for the little time her husband is on the road, the LEDs are really expensive, I couldn't afford to get this light bar now.

Peanut-This L.E.D does have a dimmer switch on that I used to activate at night. To be honest, even when they are dimmed, they are really bright. I know why most of the officers do not dim the lights. Folks don't seem to slow down or move over around emergency vehicles. I was an officer and had two issued small strobe lights on the deck. The same set up one of our detectives had on his cruiser when a tractor trailer went by, dusting him and slamming the cruiser door onto his had. He lost several fingers. Even with this set up, I almost got run over 3 times at one accident scene. I noticed the operators of two cars and one tractor trailer were ALL talking on a cell phone and swerved the very last minute prior to hitting me. I was out of the car with bright yellow safety vest, all kinds of cones and flares along with all the lights on my car on.

Oh, Peanut, stick stoppers are working great. I am in the woods every day that it isn't raining, they are holding up very well. Anyone else considering it, buy them. Very heavy duty, great American quality from our friend down in the swamps. Thanks again Peanut.

Two guns and Peanut, thanks for all your contributions to this site, they have really helped me a lot.

yea some people just don't follow the law.i don't know how the law is up there but down here they passed a law that if you come up on a traffic stop and the cop has his lights on you'r supose to go to the other lane and give them as much room as possible.too many cops was getting side swiped by trucks and cars that wanted to fly by at 50mph right next to them.i'm glad your stickstoppers are workin great and doin what they are supose to do.i just shipped a set to nova scotia.

Law down here also says to move over, and slow down I think it's at least 5mph. I've known of them having one car stopped, with several other patrol cars watching, stopping - and ticketing - cars that didn't slow down and/or move over. I was a local vol. firefighter for about 15 years, and yes, people do drive like idiots.

People don't have any respect anymore.

Don't think lights would of slowed down this driver. But something else did !!!!!

Couple of years ago, on a very dusty road, ground just about like baby powder. There was a
elderly lady who was backing her car out of her old driveway, backed up to far and just lightly
rolled into a small road ditch. Car just needed a small "push" to get out.
Myself and two other men, went and helped. During the pushing episode, a idiot came flying by,
throwing powder & dust on all of us, covering us, car, and the elderly lady had her window down,
just flew all inside her older car. Well I just went crazy mad.
Flip side to this is, the road was a dead end, and the idiot had to come back threw. Boy did he make a BIG MISTAKE !!!
And there he come blazing, trying to go out at the same rate as he come in. Blocked road
with farm trucks. That is when business picked up. After dragging his butt out and loosing my
temper. I would just about bet, he didn't pull that stunt again.

Few days later. The elderly lady made me a pecan pie and brought it to the house. Thanking
us for helping her with her car.
