Lost a tailpipe!!

OK, cleaned my spark arrestor about 6 months ago, and noticed that my tailpipe was rattling, so was planning on tightening it up.. Well, heard a clunk and my buggy started sounding like a big rig. Went back and looked and tailpipe fell off!!! Bolts pulled nuts out, just a big hole in the back of the muffler. Is there any reason to fix this? I figure that I will if I ever have any reason to ride on gub'mint land, but for generic running around does it hurt anything to have a blown out muffler? (if I don't live in Kalifornistan)

Thanks

Look at the RTV Muffler thread posted a couple of weeks ago. If it is still under warranty, it is covered. bordercollie

There is a lot of vibration on the machine. I am also keeping as eye on those plastic and metal shields.... and the dash that vibrates like a son of a gun. I am thinking of welding a decent plate on the muffler's end -when and if- mine falls off again ,then welding the pipe to that minus the arrestor..That's if it happens again. I may play with the old one and just have it ready. I never had trouble in all 4000 hrs with the old style on my '05. It had the drain plug in the bottom for particulates. bordercollie

i don't think it would hurt nuthin other than your ears. them deisels need all the air flow they can get so the less restriction you have on the outflow the better. just keep and eye out just incase it's heating up any hoses you have back there you don't wanna cook your hydraulic fluids from the exhuast heating it up prematurlly.

Thanks Peanut,

Long since out of warranty. Will run it a while and check how warm the hydraulic fluid, hoses, and reservoir is getting.
