MF35 Main Bearing Packing

I have a mf35 with the z-134 engine and i am having trouble installing the packing in the rear main bearing cap. The cap has a grove in it for the packing but the block does not. Does anybody know of a way to install this? The packing i bought from Stiener looks to be too big, the packing I got from Massey is also too big and is curved as if it should be installed around the crankshaft. Gene

Well if you have never done this your going to have a bad day and bad results = leak. Their is a seal in the block and you useally have to drop the crank down to get it in.I think you would be better off to have someone help you that has done this before,

The engine is on the engine stand at the moment.

Itś torn down, crank was turned, new sleeves and pistons, and new head, valves and springs. So the packing for the rear main bearing cap is what i need to reinstall. I have heard of guys filling it up with rtv, i dont know what i think of that.

itś just sitting in it. caps are not in it

Pull the crank out dig the old packing out of the block and install the new packing work it into the groove.Use a short piece of broom handle to help roll it into the groove make sure the ends are sticking up on each side make sure they are above block about the thickness of your finger nail same with the cap apply some permatex to the cap mating surface with the block not to much.Good luck

The packing is in the sides of the rear bearing cap, It does not go around the crank. The black rope looking material is supposed to go in the side slots. I have put them in the slots and tried to install the cop and it can not be compressed enough to install the cap.
