new accessories

Well Rusty Anvil is "complaining" that the forum is slow, so I thought I would update on my RTV "build" progress.

As noted in my thread that Two guns just bumped up.. I have my lights mostly hooked up.

I just got in the Seizmik front rack. I have the Kubota glass windshield so this is their new rack.It fastens to the brushguard, with 2 L shaped arms that reach over the hood and the rack basket fastens to the top of this. There are 2 knobs to undo the upper clamps on the L arms so that you can pivot the rack out of the way. It isn't bad to do.. but I would not want things that I needed regularly stored under the hood. So far the only thing I can see "wrong" with it, it could use a tether for when you tilt the rack forward.

I also got the Seizmik side mirrors. They fast to the ROPS with a wrap around clamp. With the glass windshield they do not stick out past the windshield and the frame. but are out far enough to see down the sides of the machine. So far they look good.

Ok I want to hear the cheers.. I finally ordered a set of tires. I chose for myself the Maxxis Bighorns, they are mounted on ITP sti cast alum. wheels.

I had ordered the Ramsey 3000 winch. but they were temp. out of stock. So I went with the Warn XT 30. I was going to mount it in the pocket, but I was not sure how to mount the fairlead.. and with the new front rack sticking out a couple of inches.. from the brush guard.. I decided to use the mount that Jamie used. [These two pieces are not here yet.].

I expect next week to start on the plywood box I will make for the rear bed. I will also build side rails to go up above the box.. and add a rear ladder rack similar to deerlope's. I was going to do the same for the front stake pockets but the metal roof overhangs these.. so that will not work. [ I am not sure if that is the case with the plastic roof or not.] deerlope lets the other end of the ladder ride on the roof] I will install a Roof rack. I have some unused roof racks on hand, all I need are some bolt on fake raingutters. to mount it to. This rack will also offer some protection to the lights.

Glenn:

When you build your bed rack don't get the pieces across the front of the bed too high or it will be hard to see anything out the rear window. My rack was higher by about 6 inches butI lower to in order to see better. I only carry a ladder once in a blue moon, so I don't worry much about the plastic roof. When I get my all outfitted for hauling maple sap I will take a pic and post it in here. But that will not happen for at least 3 more weeks.

SWEET!!!

Where's the pictures?!?!?!?

Can you use the U-bolts used to secure the roof for mounting?

Yes Deerlope.. I do remember that you cut yours down. How tall are your current sides? I am thinking of maybe 3'. I may not close in where the window is.. maybe something to time the two sides together.. but I want to be able to take it apart easily. I will at times haul dirt and rocks.. so will take the sides off.

sorry no camera yet. [:(]

for the roof rack Thule makes bolt on rain gutters. they are about 6" long they have backing plates I will just bolt these through the metal roof. on the back sort of upright sides.

My main purpose for the rack is to haul out into my woods, lumber for bridges. So far nothing bigger than double 2x6 x 16. with the metal roof I prefer to have rack.. that way I don' mark up the roof and can tie stuff down better.

From the bottom of the stake pocket to the top is 29 1/4". I haul dirt and rocks in mine and I don't take the sides off. I even load mine with the FEL on the tractor. Tieing it across the front keeps a lot of sidepressure off the bed sides and a closed tail gate will do it for the rear.

hmm that's good to know. I had planned something to tie the front together.. just maybe not closed it as much as the sides. hmm It would be nice to not have to take the stake sides off. I know my bucket is narrower than the sides.. I assume you are taking the ladder rack part off for that? Also if I remember correctly.. you have nothing for a bed liner? hmm perhaps some plywood on the floor?

Please tell me that when you said "millenium", you weren't talking about Microsoft Millenium...
That's probably the worst POS software there is. OK, Their new Vista comes in close...
I'd propose you get a copy of Win 2000 Pro or XP Pro.

To post pics in the interim, send them to me (and I believe you have my e-mail address) and I'll post them for you.

That Vista is a joke, nothing performs right with that, I know of several folks that is fighting mad over that !!! You spend your precious time trying to help people get some of the best equipment on the market. And leave 'em alone 15 minutes with a phone rep/salesman, they jump up andgive themtheir dept/ credit card #, and he B.S.' & sweet talks 'em into buying something they for sure don't need or want, then they come to you crying, saying " what do I do now " , my reply is, go ask that saleman, he knows more than anyone else that's been trying to help you.....

Ummm, I'm a "bleeding edge" person myself but do my best.
Sometimes I do OK, sometimes I don't...
1997 - Mercedes ML320 SUV - First year - Just Fair...
2004 Kubota RTV - Yea baby!!!
OK, about 100 others but it's 12:30 and past my bedtime so we'll discuss tomorrow.

hammerhead,

I have a few questions regarding the Seizmik front
rack. I assume you are talking about the Cantilever Hood Rack & Brush
Guard 08033? I would like to know if the rack vibrates.
It seems that it is only supported by the 2 L shaped arms that reach over the
hood and fasten to the front brush guard. Since the rack is not
fastened to the ROPS and only has a front fasten point, I was wondering if that
would cause excessive vibration and limit weight carrying capability.
Also, what kind of a load (weight) can the rack
support? I was looking at the rack for myself in order to carry
extra gear when back bed is full with wood etc. I want to get your
input on the product. Thanks.

I don't have any extensive experience with it yet.. as I just installed it, but sofar it looks good.It is quite ruggedly build. Those L brakets are very beefy. The rack is listed as having a capacity of 150 #'s, I don't see any reason to doubt that.

The rack itself does vibrate a little.. as in you can see it moving..with themachcine sitting there idling..but with all the hardware tight.. it does not make any noise.

hope that helps

If anybody has any trouble with a viberating noise, found out, that the Limbsaver company, who makes bow / crossbow silencers , work great >> the bed of my RTV, just above a small idle, would viberate, just for a second. Installed the Limbsavers, ( stick on type ) on the front of the bed next to the bed, that noise in GONE >>>

I have had the same rack for about a year and love it. I haven't heard any rattles from it. I have my gun rack mounted to the rack. One thing to remember is that some of the windshelds would work with it. Jon[H]

Yes it is microsoft millenium.........I sent the camera back because it didn't work on millenium........What is wrong with Vista???? Isn't that the new one???????

I am looking at a olympus fe230 for 109.00 but the chip to put i it to take pictures is 79.00 for only 256 and for a 1gb it is close to 100.00.........Did your camera cost big bucks??????? Could you recommend a good camera that doesnt require an expensive chip or an expensive battery charger...............Some of these cameras eat batteries.....I just need something cheap for now that will take pictures that I can post on the internet.........

Thanks,,,,,,,,Rusty Anvil.........

Millenium and Vista are both flops. Vista may have a chance but for now, it's full of bugs.

OK, you have an older computer... Does it have USB slots? I assume you don't have the capability to directly accept SD cards.

OK, for a camera.
I'd stick with a camera that uses SD cards. It's a common storage system and getting pretty cheap. A 2 gig SD card is about $20 and will hold probably 1500-2000 pictures.
If you don't have a SD slot available (BTW, a lot of printers have them and you can download to your PC via your printer), you'll need a SD card reader. It plugs into a USB port. Most cameras will have a cable that goes from the camera to a USB port for downloading. If no such cable, you can get a card reader for a few bucks.

For a camera in the $100 range, I'd propose something like a Samsung S630 or S730. I see Circuit Cuty has them for $89 right now. It uses AA batteries. I would highly recommend you get rechargable batteries though as any camera that uses AA batteries eats them up quickly. I'd say you would get 100-200 pictures per set of batteries (or needing a re-charge for rechargable batteries).

In the $200 range, I very much like the Casio Exilim EX-Z1080.

I'd avoid the Canon brand as there's a big problem with the LCD's breaking.
