NEW FUEL TANK

TWO GUNS

Senior Member
Just had my dealer, under warranty, replace my fuel tank. Of course, the new tank comes with a new cap. Before we done this, weeks ago, I told my dealer of the leaking fuel tank at the cap. I was willing to try the new " For Diesel Only " cap before going any further. The new cap leaked worst .... So we today installed the new tank. After coming in from the dealer, just had to try something, I put the replacement cap on the new tank, ( brought it back with me) , just to see if I just had a spare that would work. NOPE !!!. That cap has different threads than the caps on the new tank. So naturally, I put the cap back on that came with the new tank. Also, the cap that came with the replacement tank has a rubber gasket on it.The cap that came with the unit, and the "For Diesel Only" cap did not have a gasket. But I am happy to say, the new tank withthe cap that came with it works PERFECT.

While I was there, I had the dealer install me a new glass windshield,. I believe I am going to like it.Going to have to get used to backing the unit upon the trailer during transport, to help protect the windshield, for this thing is not cheap. I would hate to have to buy another !!!!!!!! My ROPS high mount air intake breather didn't come in, he said he is going to send it to me as soon as he recieves it for being I am about 2 hours away from the dealership ~~~~~~

swaping out the fuel tank is standard procedure for the instances where the replacment cap does not work. I can't say that I've seen it done to many machines though.

Glad to hear you fuel cap problem is fixed --- just wanted to say I have had a glass w/s for 2 years and I pull iton a open trailer facing forward --- My land is 3 hours from my home and I run down the road a 70 to 75 mph and have not had a problem with the glass --- just my 2 cents worth ---bdk

I need to check with my dealer as well. Can't fill the tank or I have a mess especially when trailering.

I also trailer mine a lot - always pull on and never had a problem with the windhield. I guess I would rather have wind pressing closed (pulled on) than trying to push it open (backed on).

Any way to send some pictures of the High Mount ROPS Air Cleaner? What model number did you order? DOes anyone sell these on line? I would rather order one and have it shipped than drive to the dealer. But then I do need to have the tank or cap replaced :)

Thanks

Don't have pics yet, my kit has not arrived.... But should be in this week. My RTV doesn't have a cab so I ordered the V4271 HIGH MOUNT CLEANER ROPS KIT from my dealer.., it cost me $166.00 delivered to my house. As far as anyone having them online, I looked but didn't find them. But I thought the price of the kit was more than fair. Check with your dealer and see his price ! Should be about the same. You shouldcall your dealer about the fuel tank problem, let him order your tank. For the new tank comes with a new cap, as I said on another statement, the new cap that comes with the new tank is different. So be sure to get the new cap and throw the others away, for the threads are different. Understand we are not the only ones that has had this problem, and KUBOTA knows for sure about it and they are fixin 'em up . I tried just replaceing the cap, and it was worst than before, so ask you man to save you some time and messy trailering, For I also had a mess and felt sorry for the folks who ran up behind me while I was transporting mine back & forth to the plantation, for I know they ended up with a windshield streeked with diesel fuel, the whole back of my trailer would be covered smooth up ~~~~~

As for as going down the road forward, might be ok, but I ask around and the glass windshield in the Kubotadoesn't chip out like a truck windshield, it breaks like a pop bottle. So I back mine on and let the back expanded metal help protect it the best it can, for that windshield is pricey to replace.

Did you get to contact your dealer about the replacement of the fuel tank? They are two folks around here that had to have thier tanks replaced this week. Must have been a bad run on them. But I can say, the replacement sure fixed the problem. Yesterday, went to look at some property over in Mississippi, they have some really, really steephills & hollers, first time I really putthe RTV to some steep & slick hill situations. I was really impressed at this thing, and also, the replacement tank didn't leak a drop. If it was really put to a test, yesterday was it !!!! This RTV is the best investment I have made in long time ~~~~~~~

The replacement cap my dealer gave me had a rubber gasket in it and so far it hasn't leaked yet, but if it does they saidthey would replace the tank.

There is a new fuel tank assembly (tank with newfuel cap)available now. It bascially has a revised neck/threads (compare old vs. new &you will see)that should prevent fuel leakage.

My neighbor has a 2007 that is several months old. His fuel cap/tank leaks like a sieve. He has the new style cap that says "Diesel Fuel Only".

His dealer says that he can't do anything until Kubota tells him that there is problem (?) . His dealer has 3 other customers in the same boat.

Does anybody know the Kubota Service Bulletin number regarding the fuel tank problem so that my friend can make some progress in getting this issue resolved?

(Incidentally, using the same plastic compound for both the male and female threaded coupling is generally regarded as a poor engineering practice. I don't know what the hell Kubota was thinking when they designed these tanks and caps (Cheap $$) . For instance, they should have used a metal cap with a plastic filler neck or vice versa.I bet they thought that the diesel would serve as a thread compound/lube - wrong! )

KUBOTA IS VERY MUCH AWARE OF THIS SITUATION. HIS DEALER NEEDS TO GET OFF HIS BUTT AND MAKE A PHONE CALL, LIKE MANY OTHER DEALERS HAS DONE IN THE PAST. DOESN'T COST THE DEALER A DIME, NOR DOES IT COST THE RTV OWNER ANYTHING EITHER. MATTER OF FACT, DEALER GETS PAID GOOD MONEY TO FIX WARRANTY WORK !!!

The " Diesel Fuel Only " cap will not fix the problem. It takes a whole new tank and

cap that comes with the SET . I tried the new cap only first, and the new cap just made it pour even more. The replacement cap and threads on the tank ARE different. Keep me up to date on this, and we'll see if we can help, for Kubota is bending over backwards to fix this problem, just needs to get his dealer off his butt to help. If not, go down the road to another dealer and let him do it. It ain't no sense in his dealer doing him that way.

My dealer replaced the cap for my tank and the leaking stopped. He said it fixed 9 out of ten that were having a problem. The main differenceI see in the new cap is it has a gasket or o ring. And after putting it on I drove on abank withthe tank side downhill and it didn't leak andhasn't leaked since. I don't know if the dealers are giving out differentcaps or what.

When I first talked to my dealer about my leaking problem, he wanted to fix the problem as bad as I wanted it fixed. I told him about some of the things we read on the tank/cap articles. I told him I was willing to try the new cap first. He said that we will do anything I wanted to. So he ordered me a new cap, the new cap did state " Diesel Fuel Only " . Installed it. Tried it, It leaked even worst !!!! So I called him and told him that the new cap is not working . He got on the phone right then, called and had a new tank kit shipped. Few days later, the dealerinstalled it and has not leaked a drop since. The new tanks comes with a new cap that fits perfect to it.

He has the new cap and it is worse than before just as you experienced.

What we are looking for is the Service Bulletin issued by Kubota regarding this problem.

He has called Kubota. There seems to be acommunication problem between the dealer and Kubota.

I just got off the phone with Kubota. Their rep said that they still don't have the problem solved . He said their engineering department is stillworking very hard to comeup with "a concrete solution" (his words). He said some of the new style tanks have the same leak problem, too.

He did say that Kubota has a list of all the owners with this problem and that they will be contacted as soon as they have a solid solution.

This is all very Un-Kubota-ish.

The "diesel only" cap is only for the cases where the neck has enlarged due to gas permeation. The gasket on it is the same but the thread ID is larger. So, you have to measure the neck's thread OD verses the new fuel tank assembly. That said, the new fuel tank assembly is your best bet/fix since it has an injection molded neck that will not enlarge like the old blow molded neck. The new tank design is blow molded with an injection molded neck insert and works great. We've been able to get all our customers up and running without headaches, and we sell a boat load of RTV's.

Messick,

Even though the leaking has stopped with the new cap, for the long term, do I need to get my tank changed out too? I have a 2006 model.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it [:D]

Personaly, I've not heard of anyone starting to having problems again if the new cap fix worked. I guess if that happens your a canidate for a new tank. In usual Kubota fassion, they will probably keep looking into this until there is a fix that takes care of 100% of machines, 100% of the time. I'd hang on, i'd be surprised if this is the final iteration of the tank.

I had a new tank installed with the matched cap on my 05' RTV and so far all is good.

It seems Kubota is being up front and honest about the problem, not trying to hide or push the blame. We have to respect them for this.
