New Member- Winch Info

David I have been very interested in the chainsaw winch as well as the capstain [sp] winches in quite some time. If you have one of these why would you also put a winch on your RTV?

How do you rig the snatch block,to double your pulling power. What I have done in the past is put a small chain around a tree hook the snatch block to chain and then run the cable from the winch over the pulley of the snatch block and run it back to the 1100 and hook it off. Is this the right approach??

That's right, and that's why I have a receiver on the front not just to hang my winch hook when not in use, but after I run my line threw the snatch block, I return the line and hook it on the shackle that is installed on the receiver. Works out easy and very well >>>>

Glenn - Yes. There's 2 types of fairleads. The roller fairlead is used for cables. The Hawse fairlead is used for rope.
You can use a roller fairlead with rope but you just need to make sure you don't get the rope kinked in the corners of the rollers.

David - As I recall, the mounting kit is needed for the 1100 but is not needed for the 900. It's been a few years since I mounted mine. Can someone that mounted a winch to their 900 and has a better memory than me confirm?

The winch looks great. It is a RAMSEY ______________..

Are the wireing and installation instructions included with the winch? Is the wireing complicated, rate it 1-10.

Sometimes we take the RTV out riding and do not want to pack the chainsaw winch around as it has a large motor on it and is heavy.

PUMPKIN,

Instructions came with mine.... And it was no problem with the wiring, just took my time and done it proper.Routing the wires under the cab, running right next to other cables, etc ....Rate installation as a 9 , ~~~ 10 being the best >>>>

If you get the Ramsey with the Rocker Switch hookup, let me know, and I will post a pic on where I installed it ........

Again welcome to this forum, as you have found just ask a question and these members are more than happy to help with some great information. I've got a 900 model and have learned a lot just by checking this forum every few days. Before you do or buy anything for the RTV, check this site.

On a side note when I read your post I also recognized your handle. I've put more paint on (to mark for removal) and set up more regeneration of your namesake than most people around. My operation is in S.E. Ohio.

You will find members with all types of backgrounds here. Again welcome.

Sorry for the delay in responding.

I have been busy with Christmas and several maintenance issues at work.

I am also a forester.

Ispent 30 years working for industry and the last 61/2 operating a chip mill in middle Tn.

I ship chips to Domtar @ Hawesville, Ky.

What type of business do you have?

Sorry I took so long to get back to you, I just don't check the site too often. Always good to talk to another forester. I worked 32+ years for the state of Ohio on public lands, now retired and working on a few private jobs, marking and administering sales mostly. I am also working on my 90 acres of assorted brush and trees, had two sales in the last 12 years and planning one in the next 2-3.

Keep in touch, as you can see this is a great site with some very knowledgeable people. I have not tricked my ride near as much as some of these guys, but you can bet any time I think about adding anything or doing any maintenance that I'm going to ask this bunch first.
