Hello Everyone:

I have been reading this forum for the past week or so. I currently own a Toro Twister utility vehicle, but hope to buy an RTV come spring [ We are buried in snow till spring]

The Toro was an ok machine. It hasmostly served me well, butI am looking to do a little more with autility vehicle... than when I bought it. It is only two wheel drive. and does not like colder weather. It is always fouling plugs [which was always a problem]. It also does not like water at all. The beltslips and now there is water in the tranny[which is now frozen so I can't shift it into gear]This is from puddles..[bigger puddles] but not any brook crossings. The electric dump.. also seems to be hard on batteries... so anyways I want a new machine.

Ihave beenquite sold on the kubota for some time [ I have a B7500tractor] but recently have looked at other brands. It will be a work vehicle.. with noplanned recreational riding.

While some of the other brands... may have a better electric dump... better closed in drive systems and are not so cold blooded. it seems as if the RTV is the ONLY machine that really addresses all of them.

I will have some questions for you

thank you

Glenn,

You are making a very wise move >>>>

And you can wave your troubles good-bye !!! [:D]

What model are you interested in , the 1100 w/ heat & air, or the cooler version open top, 900 ?

With the RTV, your world is fixin' to change for the BEST !!!!!

What part of the country are you from ?

Hello Two Guns

I am from the central Maine area. I am looking at the 900.. although If I could get an 1100 for what some are paying.. $15,000 area.. I would think about that. They are high 17's up here.

Even the 900 is stretching the budget a bit. I will basically use it to haul my firewood, and do trail work. I have 40 hilly acres... and love playing in the woods. I xc ski... mountian bike, and run in the woods. As long as I am mindful of it's limitations... and don't try to use it in cold weather the Toro works ok... So spending 12 grand for something better sort of seems foolish.

Welcome Glen............The RTV would be a great choice. Like any thing else once you have it you will never go back. I vote for the 1100 model. You will love the heat there in Maine. Shop around you can find a better price! Good Luck.......Ron Northern Michigan 8 inches snow and 20 degrees tonight..........

Hi Glenn
I bought mine 900 up at union farm up in union maine, he gave me a pretty good trade in on my 3010 mule.Love the power steering and dump body! It starts great in the cold weather we are havin now.I got mine in July and 1100 were just comin out.Make sure you
test drive one for a while before you buy. I've had a hard time with mine with the shifting and stopping. They are a lot of money. If you are the only one drivin it you will get used to it. Try to drive one for a while before spending
all that money. And it's a noisey cuss too.
Good luck

Glenn,

First, welcome to the forum.

To determine whether the RTV is right for you, see if you can get a demo unit from a local dealer. If not, spend some time driving it around at the dealership.

Solitude - can you qualify/quantify the noise? At idle, a diesel is loud but at full RPM's, it doesn't seem much louder. I can talk with my kids in my RTV at full speed. In my Dad's Polaris Ranger, you can forget talking to the passenger...

Hi Glen! Welcome to this forum.Solitude is right ! That power steering and hyd dump is great. Once you learn the trans you will love it too. I have 1732 hrs on my 05 model and would absolutely fight for it. I use it strictly on the farm [Cattle} and it has made my life soo much easier. There's no belt in the trans .Test drive one with the aggressive tires and you won't get stuck . I probably won't afford a brand new one when I do trade {in time} so I plan on getting a used "cream puff'". I have seen used ones with low hrs under $9000 down here for a 900 RTV. I also see a lot upNorth on ebay. I only paid 10300 for mine new in 05 but I guess those days are gone.So anyway, I believe a low hr one will be in my future. I change my oil often and the exhaust is so clear that I warmed my hands in it the other day when they were cold. This is one great machine! Good Luck and get the dealer to bring one out for you to test and ask about a demo price maybe. Bordercollie[&][&]

Glenn,

Just to quantify/qualify things, bordercollie is our resident "slacker". OK, just kidding but I think bordercollie lives on the RTV. If someone was to discuss longevity, it would be bordercollie.

Bordercollie - What???? At 1700+ hours, yours is just breaking in. You're considering trading? Why?

Hi BCZoom,! Oh no I'm just looking ..not touching !Haha !!I just am starting to save up for the hopefully way in the future buy. I take good care of my ride and I plan on wearing outeven more tires before either the RTV or I kick the bucket. If we cankeep thatproposed unnecessary interstateout ofthe farms and countryside around here ,Iwill always own an RTV 900. I just appreciate it more and more everyday. Sometimes I take things for granted. Well, like this road thing, well Idon't mindthat cold wind while riding the RTV now that I realizetheremay not be a farm to ride it on.Back to the RTV's features... I haven't found anything that can't be rigged to fit or work on this machine. I have to admit when folks drop by , I do the one hand and no hand drive to show off that power steering. Just love it!!!!! Bordercollie.[&]

Welcome to the forum, too. Even though I am a new member, I have enjoyed this website a lot already. I know you will learn a lot about the Kubota RTVshere. You will see most of the members are a little biased about their rigs but it is almost impossible not to be that way, when you get one.

Which ever one you get will be a good choice and work for you a long time. Also, the break in for the rig and the driver takes a little time, but both will handle a lotbetter in time.I love mine and would not trade it for any other on the market for my use.

bordercollie-how are things in your end of the world? I am taking some photos to send you. Thanks

Nick

Thank you everyone:

"My" Dealer in addition to selling the Kubota, also sells the Mules and John Deere. My sales personoffered to bring some out for me to try on my property. Actually he offered to bring the kubota as well as xuv. I think he would dis-own me if I bought the Mule. He really does not like them.

This would have to wait until spring. We have about 20" of snow on the ground... and we had a real wet fall. and the ground is only partically frozen. Perhaps this machine will handle that... but my trails are xc ski trails and I don't want to mess them up driving on them now.

I have really gotten to the point that I think the kubota is what I want..[I guess I was a little concerned about the ride quality of the RTV vs the XUV ... my Toro had no rear suspension... so the RTV is bound to be better than that... and I would not want to give up the hydro dump... and tranny for a better ride.if that was the case.

One of my doubts is how the RTV will fit in my trails. It is bigger than the toro.. but only slightly. The turning radius is hugely different though. I know of at least one tree I will have to cut.

while the heat of the 1100 sounds great.. I am not sure I really want to pay for that... and the cab is quite a bit larger yet.

I have ridden the RTV at the dealer briefly so I am aware of the tranny brakes... I think I can get used to that ok. I also own akubota tractor.. so I am used to the sound. While the toro was real quiet.. I generally have my chainsaw hardhat with hearing protection on anyways...So the noise is not an issue.

My issue at the moment is Kubota has 0% for two years that ends the end of Dec. as well as a $300.00 rebate that ends then also. So instead of waiting until spring I may do this now.

I will head over to my dealer today...and maybe try it out... again [it's below zero out right now] and talk to them more about price. I will also be going through Union next Tuesday so I will check in with them also.

thanks

Hi Hammerhead, I got so mad the other day when a delivery guy called the RTV a go cart!! I said " go cart!! that's not a go cart! that's practically a Jeep"! He said ""oh I didn't look". He looked closer and started saying how nice it was and" wasthat a diesel engine and really power steering?" and then came all the approving comments. My color was back to normal as was my bloodpressure bythen. What this is leading to isthis.. I had a 2001 3010 Mule.. kept it till I had 1400 hrs in Feb 05. I hadoil going into the air cleaner, the trans belt wouldscream under rutty conditions and no power steering or hyd dump. That thin roof would pool water and drench me every time it rained. No love was lost when it left thefarm.{I still can't sleep goodwhen I think of thefriend that bought that thing.}I think my turning ability is evensharper now with the power steering than theoldMule.. Surethe RTV engine is a little louder than a gas mulebut this is the real thing .. a true diesel!.The ride on mine may be a little stiff but mainly because I keep my tires overinflatedsince I carry so much stuff {minerals, fencing supplies , etc }at different times.Having the radials has helped soften the ride too.. I only have to slow down in drought conditions during the summer when those giant ant mounds are hard. I don't know if you have ants like us in theSouth, but we have mounds sometimes a foot high . It hurts to run over those in anything especially if you're speeding along. It has has some small issues but as you can tell, I 've got Kubota idis really bad. I hope you catch it too 'cause this is one fine piece of work.Bordercollie[&]

My God Bordercollie,

I can relate to the giant ant mounds...Them things will get your attention, don't care what you are in ....

Good that your neighbor has folks like ya'll willing to help at time of need. And it's also a great thing for you having the RTV to help with the cattle problem. You will be blessed for the good deed !!!!

That remote control search light is a good tool for a man that uses his utility vehicle for working applications. We use ours just about three or four times a week. It' has performed better than I would have ever imagined.

And yes, the RTV's are strong as a ox, and performs to high levels of a mans needs. Do you have a high rise air intake on your machine? What other accessories do you have on the 1100 ?

Two Guns, thanks for your reply. I bought Kubota light kit front and back. Cost to much, but I needed them now. 1100 is pre-wired and was able to put them on fast. They work great. Also, got the rear window metal screen. Very high priced and cheap made. But once in place you can fold it out and up very easy to clean your rear window. All our trucks have a head-ache rack and the rear windows never get cleaned. Kubota design will now be used on our work trucks. Thats about all the acceessories so far.

No I don't have high rise air intake. Been reading others on this group about the air intake. I thought that was for going through water. Maybe not.

Yes, you are correct about the blessings. Here in Oklahoma we are with big ice storm. No electric power for days. Older widow woman called with out power or food. We stopped what we were doing took her food and hot coffee. You are right, in my bible reading this morning,do not oppress widows, orphans or defraud strangers, don't cheat hired hands.

Back to work for me. Jesus blessing to you.

The location of the intake for the air filter is under the bed where dust, grass, etc get stirred up a lot, allowing the air filter to get dirty very quickly. Granted this is more of a problem in the summer than now but the filter needs to be cleaned often in the original location. A friend of mine has a 900 and his filter gets so clogged it affects engine performance. He didn't know about the high position intake kit. He is a large farmer and a lot of different folks drive the 900, most of the time no one checks the air filter-just the fuel level when very busy. I put a Turbo precleaner on the top instead of the dry bowl type. It is easy to forget to check it for me.

Nick

Good point. I enjoy your post. I must see to my air intake. We can stop-up air cleaners year round. Have a good day. JIK
