New Tires on RTV

<p class="MsoNormal">I just installed my new MudLite XTR 27 inch tires for my RTV
900. I replaced the stock ATV tires for something more aggressive
for the winter and spring time. I will post some pictures of
before and after shots. I did some test driving and, indeed the
XTRs are great tires. I am driving in about a foot of snow and the tires
are handling great. Stock ATV tires were slipping to much in snow and
ice. Enjoy the pictures.</p>First picture is my RTV with stock ATV tires, the rest of the pictures are the new MudLites XTR 27s

<p class="MsoNormal">Sorry, multiple pictures did not display..,.only last one of

Wish you had not posted the photo of the camo rims-you probably know why. Did you put the same width on the front and back? Also, have you been able to tell if you need the lift kit? Great looking photo. What do you hunt-pheasant? Short hair get cold?Been pheasant hunting in SD-loved it-west of Mitchell. Sorry for the number of ?s.</P>

Hi Dieselhound,That is great news and great pictures!!Beautiful scenery!!My collies are jealous because they can't get on the seat like your pooch. I would throw them off with my driving. How much air do you keep in the tires? They look like they are standing up nicely.I keep 20 psi in the rear as I mentioned in the email I sent{hope you got it this time.}.These tires will make a big difference [as you have found out ]in how you can enjoy the machine. They were a big plus for me.Have fun!! Bordercollie[&][&]

I feel like Nick, about the rims, just called in Mrs. Two Guns and showed her.... </P>

And when I ask her, I did say " PLEASE BABY " ~~~~</P>

They are the best lookin' rims I've ever seen !!!!</P>

<p class="MsoNormal">Nick-America,

Front tires are 27x9x12 and rear tires are 27x11x12. I
received plenty of advice from this forum on tire selection and I was advised
not to order the lift kit. I am glad I did not order the kit... you
do not need it. There is plenty of clearance with the tires size
selection that I stated above.

As far as the hound in the picture, yes it is a G.S.P. ( German Shorthair
Pointer ). His name is Gunther and is an excellent bird dog.
I hung pheasants here in <st1:place>Southern Minnesota</st1:place> and grouse
hunt in <st1:place>Northern Minnesota</st1:place> as well. I also
have a second G.S.P. I hunt with as well. They make a good team and are
great all around dogs ( they love to run and love the RTV! ).</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Bordercolie,

Currently I am running with 8.5 P.S.I. in the front and
back. I am experimenting with different values to see how they handle in
snow/ice. When I received the tires, both rear tires were at 20
P.S.I. and both of the front tires were at 7 P.S.I. Tires are great
and are working like you said. Regarding the scenery, I live in South
Eastern Minnesota.<span style=""> </span>Country here
consists of farm land, bluff land,<span style=""> </span>woods
and trout streams.<span style=""> </span>I live on a small
hobby farm.<span style=""> </span>A bit cold in the winter
but the rest of the year makes up for it.<span style="">
</span>Thanks. </p>

It is nothing, I mean NOTHING better than a good hunting dog. Bestpartner a person could have.</P>

They are always ready when you are..... And always there to give you their help ......That is a very nice lookin' dog you have there !!!! </P>

<p class="MsoNormal">TWO GUNS,

Sorry I did not post the pictures before Xmas.
You could have put the rims on your wish list! I was not sure about
ordering them at first but now that I have them I think I made a good
choice. Thanks for the advice for helping me with the tire
selection. I can not complain, they ride very well and grip great in the
snow and ice.</p>

Thanks for the info. Keep us posted what tire pressure you like.I am ordering a set like you have-same size, too.</P>

<p class="MsoNormal">Nick-America,

Here is a picture of my RTV with stock tires. Compare it
against the new picture I posted earlier so that you can see the difference in
tire size and clearance on RTV. Hope this helps you out with your decision.
Thanks.</p>

Thanks for the photos of the original tires for comparison. I am a little past the age group to be riding fast and hard-long time ago-yes. I really like the way the new tires look and the clearance looks fine to me. Got a fine looking pair of short hairs there. When I was very young,an elder friend of my dad used to take me quail hunting-had quail then-and all he had was German Short Hair. Brings back grand memories. He had a side by side double barrel, 20 gauge that I shot, due to my youngage. I did say shot, not hit anything, but he was kind enough to give me credit for some of his good shots. Nothing like seeing good dogs work. Thanks</P>

Due to many things, quail hunting has become a thing of the past around here. Went 2-3 years without hearing one call in the evening. Four years ago, I planted 60 acres of native prairie grasses around our home which includes two lakeswith feed plots, and now we have several covies to have the pleasure of seeing and hearing often. Also, turkeys have been released 15-20 years ago and now we have quite a few turkeys. Saw two flocks yesterday with about 50-60 total. </P>

Woke up this morning, telling Mrs. Two Guns over coffee, " sure like to have a set of 'em camo wheels " ~~~ told her over the second cup, and the third and fourth cup... All I can get out of her is.,</P>

In many cases, as we all know, it takes years & years of hard work, anddiscipline, but the final outcome is wonderful, no matter what they are trying to conserve !!!!<FONT face=Arial size=2> </FONT></P>

DH - Great looking tires/rims. Really makes an impressive difference in the overall look of the 900.

Have a few questions if you don't mind.

- What effect does larger tire size have on the engine and trans of the 900? Both in function and wear/longevity.

- Can these tires mount on the factory rims?

- What is the ride like at higher speeds on harder surfaces such as a road or plowed driveway?

- Does it effect the steering due to the increased bite of the tread?

- Will you be swapping them back out for the factory tires/rims come spring?

- Were they shipped to you mounted and ready to bolt on?

THANKS for the time and the pics.

<span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: "Times New Roman";">seery,

I will need some help from other fellow forum members ( TWO GUNS, bordercollie,
etc. ) in order to answer all of your questions.

- What effect does larger tire size have on the engine and trans of the 900?
Both in function and wear/longevity. ANS: There has been some
discussion in different threads in this forum on larger tire size and impacts
to RTV. Some have noticed higher temperature readings.
As far as impacts on engine, trans ... I need some help from the other fellow
forum users.

- What is the ride like at higher speeds on harder surfaces such as a road or
plowed driveway?

ANS: I have only tested the tires on snow/ice and plowed dirt
roads. I have not tested them on payment etc. Bordercollie
and TWO GUNS might be able to help me out here since they have been using
non-stock tires for a while.

-Does it effect the steering due to the increased bite of the tread?

ANS: I have noticed that you feel the bite of the tread when steering at
slow speeds. Nothing to extreme. Could cause damage on lawn in spring and summer.

- Will you be swapping them back out for the factory tires/rims come spring?

ANS: Yes. My plan it to use the tires during the winter and
spring and then switch back to my stock ATV tires in the summer when the ground
is hard - this way I will not damage lawn. The whole reason why I wanted
different tires was that the existing stock ATV tires were not performing
as good as I wanted in the snow. I wanted better tires so that I can
enjoy the winter and spring months using my RTV.

- Were they shipped to you mounted and ready to bolt on?

ANS: Yes. Tires arrived in three and a half days. Four
tires mounted on rims and one package that contained new lugs for
mounting. From the good feedback from numerous forum users, I
selected to purchase my tires from www.allterrainonline.com.

I hope this helps and I hope that other members please add comments to the
questions </span>

Myexperience & thoughts of the larger tires :</P>

I have notice NO higher temp readings on my unit at all >>>> No doubt, that the newer tires ride so much better than the OEM atv tires that come with my machine, Either in the woods, fields, or on gravel around the tracter sheds, silos, & barns ... Do not run mine on pavement at all, no need to....</P>

Haven't felt any bite difference in steering. If it was any, I have not notice it >>>></P>

The effect of the larger tires on the RTV, in my heart, don't believe it will have ANY effect on the engine or trans of the units as far as hurting it . For this machine is built like a tank / tractor >>>> It will take more than you think.</P>

Our tires are the 27" 589's, and some others are running the radial mud-lites. The radials, if I am not mistaken, treads sit " flatter" on the ground than the 589's, so I believe that more tread is touching the ground more, but the 589 treads stick up higher, which make it just a little more aggressive . ( hope this statement made sense )</P>

I will say, in Low & Med, on my unit, there was no differance in the power & speed. ( These RTV's has the POWER.to rotate them bigger tires, No doubt .... ) But in the High, felt a little pull on the engine, more during take-off. But not enought to talk about, once a rolling, it jumps right up there. The High position in the RTV, that I have found out, is just for rolling to point A , to point B >>>> more of a so called " Road Gear " . When going from field to field, ( on harder dirt & mud ) or coming back to the barns from the woods, and want to cover some ground. I run in High, but once in the woods, or in soft fields, etc.. etc... run in Med, and if it is really boggy bad, in the swamps, just drop it in low, engage the diff. lock, and creep on threw it. Have found out since the new tires were installed, I hardly ever have to put mine in four wheel drive, even in some unky places >>>>.</P>

As you can see, think the tread on the 589's stick up higher, than the radials.... Them ITP mud-lite radials are some great tires >>>>> </P>

Please go to next thread on : New Tires Cont , I'm doing something wrong on attachments >>>></P>

maybe this will come threw ~~~~</P>

Nope, didn't go threw, I will add another thread to show how I feel that the ITP radials sit flatter than the 589's...</P>

The ITP MUD-LITERADIALS, are a super, great tire, for I know they ride even much better than the 589's >>>>> </P>

Please go to next thread : New Tires Cont .....</P>

I keep messing up on the attachments for some reason >>>> might have to go to computer school or something <<<<<</P>
