Hi to everyone

I just found this sight a week ago, it is a wealth of information. I bought a 2007 rtv in may and use it on road construction as a foreman vehiclein wisconsin. I use it on average of 5 hours a day driving along Caterpillar earthmover and among D-5 to D-10 Caterpillar dozers. Everything is working out great along as I stay out of their ruts. I have read alot about the fuel cap issue. I don't know if it pertains to me. I looked at my fuel cap and it does not say desiel. I have to really turn it hard to get it so it does not leak, that is not the worst, trying to turn it off is. I have to use an oil filter wrench from time to time depending on if I ate my Wheaties in the morning. If any one has some advise before I call and check with my dealer so I can have my ducks in a row it would be great.

Thanks

Purchased mine in Feb. 10, 2007, the fuel tank poured, no matter how tight you done it.

Talked it over with my dealer, and he replaced the tank ( which comes with a new cap ) , and on the new cap, there were NO diesel markings on it. If your tank is going to leak, it don't matter how tight you " twist " it on, it's going to leak.... I've been there !!!

My new tank and cap, I just barely put the cap on. And it does not leak. I know , and others will tell you also, if you make a mistake and twist this cap on tight, it takes the grace of God to get it off. Best thing to do, is to lightly put the cap on,( it will not leak ) and see what it does. Talked to some machanics at the dealer, and said that the threads on the " leaking tanks " were bad, and even if you put a new cap on it, ( which I did first, atdealers cost ) it will still leak !!!!

Remember, the cap will be lubercated with fuel when you put it on, so it seems that you don't put it on tight, but mister, when it's time to come off, the lubercant must is gone, and hell starts ~~~

You will know if you have a bad tank with bad threads, for I would fuel mine up, load it on the trailer, and the WHOLE side of the RTV & trailer would be covered with fuel by the time I got to the other farm ( 23 miles ) ..... [:@]

Hi Blinko and welcome to the best group of friends around. I have a Feb 05 RTV with 1789 hrs. I had my fuel cap replaced under warranty - it still leaked and I found out they had just added 2 rubber gaskets to the cap. I complained and they replaced the tank. It was/is still hard to get off .I just use a rubber strap wrench to remove and tighten it. Get yours fixed while under warranty or you will regret it. Just tell them it's just not acceptable . Our JD tractors ' fuel caps fit so nice on the tractorsthat I get ticked every time I fuel up the RTV. ..but I love everything else about it. Good luck and what kind of tires? Bordercollie[&][&]

Welcome to the forum Blinko and congrats on your new RTV!!!
Did you get a 900 or 1100 model? If a 900, you're probably going to want some accessories for the amount of time you spend in it. First and foremost, a roof. Others to follow.

Can't add much to the fuel tank issue. As noted, work it out with your dealer.

And please remember to stay out of their way.[;)]

Hello Blinko, welcome to the forum. I myself am relatively new here. I have found it to be a great bunch... freindly and helpful.

My cap does not seem to leak.. but it is hard to open. I remember while looking at these.. I mentioned to my salesman about hearing about the cap issues on this forum. He had a new machince there on the floor we could not get the cap off. [:)]

Welcome Blinko!

I had the exact same experience as my old friend Two Guns. After the tank was replaced I barely spin on the cap and no leak even when full and bouncing on a trailer.

When I called about the leak the dealer service manager said he had a new cap to try. I mentioned to him that the guys on the Compact Tractor Review forum didn't have any luck with a new cap. He said, "sounds like you did your homework, I will order a new tank." I took it in with maybe a pint of fuel to make it easy on the mechanic. He must have appreciated it. After he was done he said "gave you a little more fuel" and smiled. He completely filled the tank and I never lost a drop on the way home.

I have been using this site for a little over a year and have received tons of help and ideas. No matter what I come across someone else has already had experience and is willing to help out.

Hi Bordercollie

I just called my dealer and they are going to give me a new cap if that does not fix the problem I am to bring it in and they will put a new tank on. My tire are still the standard atv type tires that came with the camo rtv. Though my fronts are about wore out in about 350 hours so I am starting to look for replacements. Has anyone tried taking 14in rims from a ford ranger or s-10 truck and see if they match up. I was thinking that if that worked when the terrain allowed it would save on the exspensive tires.

Sure thought the front tires would last longer than 350 hours , must be on some really hard ground, concrete, or the front end needs to be checked on the tow in >>>>>>

Maybe it's just my thinking ~~ [*-)]

Might need to ask someone who has the " hour " experiance.... Bordercollie is popping close to 1800 hrs on his unit .... wonder how fast his tires wore ?????????

Bordercollie, you've got a answer on tire wear ?

I took it in and had the alignment checked they said it was off alittle. Most of the hours were on dirt and a shot rock road, the shot rock may have made it wore a little faster. When I used an atv all I could get out of the tires were about 3000 - 4000 miles and I figure I have more than that on my rtv

Hi Two Guns

Hi Blinko,Two Guns and all, Yes the old Hoss is nearing 1800hrs. I bought the Boss Hoss in Feb 05 with WS tires. I got "tired"of getting stuck and bought a set of 26" plain Mudlites on polished rims. I don't remember when I put them on the RTV but the WS tires looked new when I took them off. I store them on the original rims for backup.I used the plain Mudlites until about 1600 hrs. At this time two of them developed knots or bulges. I used the WS until the Mudlite XTR 27" came in.{about a week}I got them mounted on the polished rims that the 26"ers came on. I have about 200 hrs on these XTR'sand they still look like new. I keep them overinlated or they sit too low even for me. I knew a fellow who owned a Mule and he kept the tires a little low on air well anyway they wore out fairly quick.I had a Mule at the same time and my unit had over 1400 hrs on the tires when I sold itand they were still good. Of coarse they aren't as heavy as the sturdy RTV.I believe [not surethough] thatBCZoom had rigged up some tires rimsfrom some of those small spares from auto yards.Good Luck! Ask any Questions anytime!!Bordercollie[&][&]
