New winch

Hi guys.. my new winch just came in. I only ordered it tuesday?? [:)] .. although the mount did not come in yet.

So I obviously I can't mount it yet [:(] I have some reading to do though.. this will be my first winch and therefor my first install.

I know for those that are mounting it in the pocket.. they take off the brush guard.. and black plastic part of the grill.

Jamie.. I am [supposed to be] getting the same mount as you have. I just have the warn winch.. instead of the Ramsey.

Obviously I can;t take of the brushguard to mount this. do I just run the wires through the pocket .. do the rest under the hood. and not have to take anything off? Hmm it will be a lot easier to take the rack I installed off. I figured that when I installed it, but I did want to see what it looked like.. and it is easy to remove.. it i will be easier than working around it.

oh another things.. Ramseys winch rope package.. used the hawse fairlead.. and Warn stays with the roller... any comments from anyone?

Although mine is in the pocket, I've seen pics of Jamie's setup. As far as I know, you shouldn't have to remove anything.

You'll need to tilt your hood rack forward so you have access under the hood.

The wiring is the most time consuming part of installing the winch so if you have time now, go ahead and get that started.

You're supposed to use the Hawse but if your rollers have no burrs in them, you can probably get away with using the roller. I haven't had any issues...

You might find it easier if you remove your hood rack, for it tilts forward don't it ? I didn't have to remove anything. under the hood, you will find a " trap door " under it is where I mounted the silinoid switch. Very easy >>>> ran wires threw the front then followed other wires that was running beside the frame of the unit. I ran my wires threw that flexable conduit , then followed the wires to the battery ..... Used the Xtra heavy dutybigBLACK zip ties. Black holds better than any other color, or should I say, they don't dry out and break as quick >>>>>.

Very easy !!! I had to wait for my winch plate a few days also, that give me time to do the wiring, and then, when the winch showed up. " BAM " bolted 'er up, tied in the hot wire >>>> she's been on standby ever since >>>>>

Thanks Jamie:

I planned on taking the rack back off for the winch install... it will be easier. hmm I like the idea of putting the solinoid in the pocket. I have gone over all the info and have a good idea of what I am going to do. I hope to be able to do the wiring part tomorrow.

If I may, I'd suggest putting the solenoid and other parts higher (under the hood).
Putting it in the pocket makes it vulnerable to the elements (e.g. water coming in from the bottom).
