I do remember those days when I was making well under $1/hr and I couldn't afford to buy a used car for $75. I do recall gas at about $0.19/gal at it's lowest.
When I started driving gas was 33 or 35 cents a gallon. But at one point in there was a gas price war in my area. I bought gas for just 19 cents a gallon. I filled up my 66 Chevelle convertible once, maybe twice at that price. Then it jumped to mid 20's, then the price war was over. It was nice while it lasted.
I was going to college and working part time making 2.25 an hour I think. I bought the 66 Chevelle for $595. Had a $36 a month payment. I forget what I paid down on it, not much though. The car had 96k miles on it when I bought it. Wish I still had that car.
